About the Item

The Archer (Der Bogenschütze) — Large Bronze, 42” tall male nude academic bronze sculpture by Ernst Moritz Geyger. Cast by Gladenbeck Foundry, Berlin This 42-inch bronze of The Archer—Ernst Moritz Geyger’s most celebrated work—is a powerful and elegant statement of early modern sculpture. Fully restored and ready to place, this example was cast by the prestigious Gladenbeck Foundry, which acquired the rights to edit the model in bronze. The present work represents the most desirable scale, offering commanding presence and exceptional visual impact. First conceived in the late 19th century, The Archer was issued by Gladenbeck in three sizes, with one model famously illustrated on the front of the foundry’s 1903 catalogue, underscoring its importance within their canon. While Geyger’s inspiration ultimately derives from antiquity—specifically an ancient wrestler’s torso in Berlin—his achievement lies in a fresh, modern reinterpretation of the Ideal. The figure’s sinuous muscularity and taut anatomy capture the split second before release, harnessing undiluted energy, balance, and restraint. The composition unites powerful form and refined elegance: the archer’s body arcs with controlled tension, the musculature flowing seamlessly through torso and limbs, while the poised stance and extended bow create a dynamic silhouette from every angle. The richly patinated bronze surface enhances the sculptural modeling, revealing depth and nuance across the figure’s planes. A rare male nude of this scale and quality, The Archer functions as a dramatic focal point in both modern and classical interiors—equally compelling in a minimalist architectural setting or a traditional interior. Works of this stature, authorship, and foundry pedigree are extremely hard to find, making this an exceptional opportunity for discerning collectors. Shipping costs to be based on delivery address.

Seated Mercury Life-size Grand Tour Bronze Sculpture
Located in Palm Beach, FL
Seated Mercury (Hermes) — Grand Tour Life-Size Bronze Italian School (possibly Naples) Italy, Late 19th–Early 20th Century This commanding life-size Grand Tour bronze depicts Mercury (Hermes) seated in quiet repose upon a rock, rendered with classical authority and exceptional refinement. The youthful god’s finely modeled anatomy, serene, introspective expression, and distinctive winged sandals draw directly from the celebrated ancient prototype, creating a sculpture of enduring presence and balance. Fully restored and ready to place, the bronze presents beautifully for interior display or garden installation, where its patinated surface responds richly to natural light. The composition derives from the renowned Seated Mercury discovered on August 3, 1758, in the peristyle garden of the Villa dei Papiri at Herculaneum. The ancient original—now housed in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli—became a touchstone of classical taste and a must-see for Grand Tour travelers of the 18th and 19th centuries, admired for its harmony, restraint, and technical mastery. Cast in richly toned bronze and finished with a nuanced patina, this example exemplifies the Neapolitan tradition of Grand Tour bronzes, prized for archaeological fidelity and sculptural finesse. Its impressive scale and poised silhouette make it a significant focal point in both modern and classical settings—an object that bridges antiquity and the cultivated collecting culture of the Grand Tour. Sculpture Art Deco in Spelter "The Archer" (ca. 1920) by Jean De Rancourt
Located in Ixelles, BE
- The Artwork: This sculpture by Jean de Roncourt embodies a striking dramatic tension through the figure of an archer in full action. Kneeling, with a taut torso and prominent muscles, the man draws his bow in a gesture of controlled power. The dynamic, almost choreographic posture reveals a perfect knowledge of human anatomy, typical of the Art Deco movement to which de Roncourt belonged. The grey-patinated spelter confers an antique nobility...
