About the Item
This contemporary ceramic vessel is moss green in color.
Inspired by the organic forms and patterns found in nature, Paula Murray creates uniquely beautiful porcelain artwork. Her hand-made ceramic vessels are renowned internationally for their distinctive elegant undulating shape and exquisite detail. Murray employs a variety of techniques to create what appears as craquelure inside and outside her vessels. This piece is a fresh, moss-green color.

Paula Murray was born in Ottawa and studied science at the University of Ottawa and ceramics at Sheridan College. Elected to the International Academy of Ceramics (2017) and the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts (2006) she has based her full-time studio practice from Meech Lake, in Gatineau Park since 1980.
Exhibiting in prestigious exhibitions in Canada, Italy, China, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Portugal, Romania, and the USA, she has received several awards and creation grants.
In 2021, Paula Murray was awarded one of the highest honours granted by the Quebec government in recognition of an exceptional career in the arts—the Prix d’excellence from le Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec.
Public collections include the World Korean Ceramic Foundation Museum, Yingge Ceramic Museum, Taiwan, Museum of Ceramics, Faenza Italy, Canada House, London, UK, and in Canada the Gardiner Museum, Museum of History, and Art Bank.

Paula Murray
Paula Murray studied ceramics at Sheridan College and completed a residency at the Banff Centre before launching a successful career. She has received multiple grants and awards from the Ontario Crafts Council, the Canada Council and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. She has completed many public commissions, including pieces for the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards. Murray's ceramics have been gifted by the Canadian government to dignitaries such as U.S. President George W. Bush and UN Secretary Kofi Annan. Her work is held in private, corporate and public collections, including Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Banff Centre, the Gardiner Museum and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. In 2006, Murray was elected member of the RCA. In 2017, she was elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics.
