About the Item

Amanda Watt (Irish, 1960-) Thatched Chair 1996 7/25 Paint on wood Hand signed, titled and dated verso Dimensions: 48 X 23 X 1 This is a colorful Trompe L'oeil surrealist wall hanging sculpture of a farm house thatched chair with a comfy striped pillow on it by Irish Californian Pop Artist Amanda Watt A self-confessed ‘Fusionist’, Amanda pays homage to the past: the multiple perspectives of cubism; the bright energy of expressionism and the simplicity of primitivism, her bright vivid color, all allowing her to show the true integrity of painting. Her every-day world and that of fantasy collide to create bright and joyful naive images based on the clarity and simplicity of abstract forms. Amanda Watt was born in Northern Ireland in 1960. Moving around a lot as a child between towns and countryside, drawing remained the one constant in her life. She graduated with a BA Hons from the Belfast College of Art and Design in 1982, and immediately left for the bustling London art scene. After three years, she was given an opportunity by one of her collectors to move to Los Angeles, where she spent the next twenty years building a successful career as an artist. This would work great in a 1980's interior and matches the exuberance of memphis Milano and related movements and artists. Amanda’s work was well-known on the California art scene, with annual exhibitions spanning over ten years at Timothy Yarger Fine art in Beverly Hills, as well as Bowles Sorokko Galleries in San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles. Her bright, vibrant interior scenes and semi-abstract figurative and landscape paintings became a staple of Californian society, with key collectors including casino mogul Steve Wynn, award-winning film director Barry Levinson and former producer and now successful fashion designer Marla Ginsburg. this work bears similarities to the work of Israeli Dudu Gerstein and shows the influence of fellow British expat artist David Hockney. She was included in shows at a number of London galleries including Cutts Gallery, Steve Bartley Gallery, and Roger Francis Gallery. She worked with master etcher and printmaker Pascal Giraudon. Pascal had moved to LA after working in the South of France with some of the most talented artists of the twentieth century, including Marc Chagall and Salvador Dali.

Brad Howe was born in 1959 in Riverside, California. As a student of International Relations at Stanford University, Howe attended the University of São Paulo to specialize in Literature and Economic History. It was there that he discovered his passion for art and architecture that would eventually lead to his first exhibitions. His work can also be found at various universities including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, Temple University in Philadelphia, and UCLA. Mixed-Media Wall Sculpture foam clay, acrylic enamel on wood. "In a While"
By Vera Vizzi
Located in FISTERRA, ES
IN A WHILE (2025) is a small-scale, wall-mounted mixed-media sculpture by Vera Vizzi that transforms a familiar domestic object into a sculptural encounter. Hand-modeled in foam clay and applied onto a compact wooden block (25 x 9 x 10 cm), the work is finished with layered acrylic paint and enamel marker decoration along the extruded “tube” form. The piece foregrounds tactile surface, color contrast (white base with red/yellow graphic motifs) and a vertical, relief-like silhouette that reads equally as objet d’art or a focused accent on a gallery wall. Conceptually the work frames an everyday action — squeezing a tube — as a compressed temporal event: small gestures that compress time and meaning. Keywords for search and contextualisation: mixed media on wood, foam clay sculpture, enamel and acrylic, wall sculpture, small contemporary sculpture...
