About the Item
"Unzip The Earth GEO" is a playful, outdoor sculptural installation consisting of a steel zipper handle and concrete brick teeth that give the illusion of unzipping the hillside. The exaggerated size of this everyday object that the artist has transformed into fine art is Pop art-inspired. This sculpture is in an edition of 9.
“Floyd does in three dimensions what the Group of Seven did in two, his style is particularly his own”. – J. Long, art critic
Floyd Elzinga’s work explores traditional landscapes through non-traditional techniques. Strongly influenced by the natural and cultivated environment surrounding his studio on the Niagara Escarpment, each creation is a direct reference to his distinctly Canadian perspective. Elzinga’s pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across southern Ontario. Floyd received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art
Design in Halifax, NS.

Floyd Elzinga
Canadian sculptor Floyd Elzinga’s work merges iconic imagery from the Canadian landscape – the maple leaf, pine branch and pine cone – with Pop art to create works that are both playful and inspiring. From his studio on the Niagara Escarpment, Elzinga creates unique indoor and outdoor steel and bronze sculptures that resonate with a distinctly Canadian perspective. Elzinga has exhibited across Ontario and in Alberta and Nova Scotia. His work has been commissioned for public and private spaces in Canada, the US and internationally. A branch and leaf that bends in the wind was commissioned by Global Affairs Canada for the APEC Park in Da Nang, Vietnam. His corten and stainless steel sculptures can be found in the City of Lacombe, Alberta, Kings Christian Collegiate in Oakville, Loretto College, Toronto, The Groves Welcome Center in Humble, TX, the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Toronto to name just a few. Elzinga holds a degree in Earth Sciences from McMaster University, a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and a Certificate of Art Fundamentals from Sheridan College of Applied Arts
Technology.
