About the Item

"Record Player" by Jerome Ferretti, Detroit muralist, painter and sculptor, is a genuine Symphonic Record Player with built-in speakers that Jerome has re-purposed, decorated and painted re-creating the record player into a sculpture with musical themes, a unique one-of-a-kind work of art. His captured characters dance both in, on and about the record player's case. Jerome Ferretti is a member of the original Cass Corridor artists. His murals adorn many of Detroit's eateries. Most recently, he created a mural for the premiere Wholefoods store In Detroit’s Midtown located at Woodward and Mack Avenue. Following in his family’s footsteps, he became a Journeyman Bricklayer; at the same time teaching himself the basics of drawing and watercolors. Maturing as an artist, Ferretti incorporated the techniques he learned as a skilled trade with further refinement of his fine art skills attending the Center (now College) for Creative Studies. Other College for Creative Studies (formerly Center for Creative Studies) faculty and graduates include Richard Jerzy, Harry Bertoia, Doug Chaing (currently director of Lucas Film), Stephen Dinehart (game maker, writer, designer connected with The David Lynch Foundation), Tyree Guyton (international artist), Herb Babcock, Kevin Siembieda (writer, designer and publisher of role-playing games), Renee Radell, Philip Pearlstein, Charles McGee (nationally recognized African American sculptor of animal and dancing spirits), Philip Pearlstein (2000 Honorary Doctorate, Modern Realism style), and John Louis Krieger (American Modern) and William Girard (American Modern.) Jerome also attended Wayne State University located in Midtown Detroit and boasting an extensive number of prestigious alumni including Arthur Danto, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Tyree Guyton, Hughie Lee-Smith, Philip Levine, Casey Kasem and Helen Thomas. A residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, Nebraska during 1991 launched a new phase under the mentorship of world-famous ceramist Jun Kaneko. Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts was founded by artists Jun Kaneko, Tony Hepburn, Lorne Falke and Ree Schonlau in 1981. This combination of fine arts and trades skills learned by Ferretti lead him to create a unique body of work that is expressed through watercolors, oils, pastels, architectural pieces and metal, brick and ceramic sculpture. Ferretti has many notable commissions and public works of art, including: “Seeds” in the Ford Parking structure in Downtown Detroit and “Monumental Kitty” (completed in 2010) in the Corktown neighborhood. His architectural pieces are in private residences and commercial properties statewide. He has collaborated with artists Robert Sestock, Eric Fogle, Tom Rudd and Matthew Blake. Ferretti has also taught Ceramics at Wayne State Charter School, and Ceramics and Photoshop at the College for Creative Studies.

"THE MANTEL SERIES" John Glick Stoneware Objets d Art Intimate Indoor/Outdoor
Located in Detroit, MI
SALE ONE WEEK ONLY John Glick is well-known for his beautifully rendered functional pieces of art. His decorative pieces, especially his large pots, are breathtakingly powerful objects. Glick's creative genius, however, is most exquisitely shown in this unique grouping of objets d'art. The Wall Hanging has a lovely classical scroll shelf. The objets on the shelf include an apple and pear - both fruits frequently rendered by artists from the Dutch Masters to Cezanne because of their perfectly balanced shape and rich colors. In addition is a small Greek or Roman styled dish used as an oil lamp. The other three objets are mysterious twisted tube-like organic shapes. John Glick, at one of his richest, creative bests. The objets are of various sizes, movable and can be displayed as desired. The size given is the overall size of both pieces and the objets d'art. "The works in John Glick’s “Mantel Series” are still life tableaux comprised of ordinary, yet intriguing objects that imply a history of people interacting with objects and each other over time. Imagine a lettr or poem from a loved one, once read, tucked among other fabourite things for safekeeping. Or a salty treasure carried in a dampened pocket and later deposited on a cottage shelf to dry, crackle and change. In essence, the mantels hold suggestive collections in which most people can find a part of themselves a link to a personal memory and a connection to a lost moment in time. His body of work, The Mantel Series, was partially inspired by a memory of a salt box that hung near his grandmother’s kitchen wood stove. For Glick, the unassuming little box, with its pleasing enigmatic shape and wooden lid, conjured pleasant boyhood memories, nostalgia for home and hearth, and vivid awareness of history. Upon his wall-based mantels, the artist placed a well-honed repertoire of distinct objects, all deftly crafted of clay, that become characters in his unspoken drama, each form playing off the others in the ensemble.” Plum Tree Pottery...

John Albert Murphy Porcelain "Dark Days Ahead" Sculptural Nested Bowls
Located in Detroit, MI
"Dark Days Ahead" is in fact a glorious paper-thin porcelain sculpture with fluted sides. The "two bowls and one ball" are nestled and permanently fixed. The black and white linear design to the porcelain is relieved by the movement of the fluted sides of the "bowls." This complex design is both light and airy while being visually weighted by the innermost "ball" being covered in a silver glaze suggesting heavy stainless steel. The ceramic piece is slip cast porcelain, masking tape stenciled and glazed in the style of abstract expressionism, specifically Pointillism.  It was fired in oxidation at 2230 degrees Fahrenheit.  The sphere in the center has luster glaze. Eugene Caples "Bronze Sculpture II" Abstract Bronze Sculpture
By Eugene Caples
Located in Detroit, MI
This small exquisite "Bronze Sculpture II" is in excellent condition and a perfect example of Eugene Caples craftsmanship. This is mainly abstract with some graphic or architectural elements and is so delightful that mythical creatures demand to be considered. It cries out to be touched and held, looked at and caressed. The beautiful patina on the surface gives voice to the many hands that have done these things. Eugene Caples is a designer and craftsman who worked in Kansas City in the 1960s and later through the early 21st century. He attended the Kansas City Art Institute, earning his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Industrial Design in 1959. In 1963 he was accepted to Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The Cranbrook Academy of Art was designed by architect and faculty member, Eliel Saarinen who collaborated with Charles and Ray Eames on chair and furniture design.
