About the Item
Edition of 12
'Cheetah Head' by Tobias Martin. A bronze sculpture of a cheetah head, patinated in rich browns with mottled touches of white, captures the essence of speed, elegance, and predatory focus. The sculptor renders the head with smooth, flowing lines, emphasising the sleek, aerodynamic qualities of the cheetah’s form. The powerful jaw, high cheekbones, and forward-facing eyes are all carefully modeled, creating an impression of alertness and intensity. Upright ears frame the head, enhancing its symmetry and poise, while the elongated muzzle conveys both grace and strength.
The smooth and tactile finish gives the piece a refined presence, inviting viewers to trace its contours with their hands as much as their eyes. The mottled brown patina echoes the spotted coat of the cheetah, while touches of white highlight key features, from the curve of the cheeks to the ridges above the eyes. These subtle variations in tone animate the surface, catching light and adding depth without disrupting the sculpture’s clean, elegant silhouette.
More than a literal likeness, the sculpture embodies the cheetah’s symbolic qualities: speed, precision, and wild beauty. It transforms a fleeting image of the world’s fastest land animal into a timeless bronze study, celebrating both its physical power and its quiet, commanding presence.

Tobias Martin
Tobias Martin was born in Wiltshire, 12 miles from Stonehenge. Influenced by his idyllic rural upbringing, and the forces of nature and magic that permeated his childhood surroundings, these works have something of the mystical about them. After graduating from Saint Martin’s School of Art in 1999, he still remains and works in London. His work has been shown within many prestigious, including the Royal Academy. His work can be seen as an attempt to visually articulate a great epistemological challenge: that of the human mind encountering the intellectually imponderable. Each piece is approached with precise observation and an acute interest in the minutiae of the subject matter, manipulating the material with a delicacy and lightness of touch. Despite being realised in heavy materials such as bronze, the resulting piece achieves a sense of movement and character that conveys the essential spirit of the animal. Encompassing elements of sculpture, installation, drawing, performance and video - Tobias’ practice partly relies upon the translation of scientific research methodologies to the processes of art making. This is perfectly applied particularly Tobias’ animal sculptures which capture the characteristic essence of the individual species.
