About the Item
Contemporary wall-mounted sculpture by Tristan Fitch composed of pit-fired porcelain cubes on a hand-carved shelf made from locally sourced pine referencing architectural forms and alchemy. The porcelain cubes are first bisque fired in a kiln then placed in a pit and wood fired with metal oxides and combustible materials like seaweed, banana peels and corn husks. The firing process results in varied coloration and patterns across the cubes.
Tristan Fitch is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based in Catskill, NY whose work bridges ceramics, wood, and painting. His practice explores the intersection of architecture and nature, emphasizing process, form, and surface texture. Through tactile materials and layered techniques, Fitch creates pieces that evoke both structural rhythm and organic nuance, inviting viewers to engage with the physicality of his craft.
