"Spring In Her Step" Cattle Landscape Texas
A native of Texas, Chuck Mauldin has been painting in oil since the age of twelve. His interest in watercolor and pencil drawing grew during his years spent in Louisiana. With his move back to Texas, he has renewed his focus on oil painting, using this medium in a realistic yet painterly style. Striving to quickly capture color and mood with a direct "alla prima" technique is one of his main objectives in painting outdoors on-location. Cows, cowboys and Native Americans often enrich the landscape in his studio work, while anything can inspire his plein air paintings.
Workshops with Charles Sovek, Kevin Macpherson, and many others have played a significant role in his development as an artist. He is a member of Oil Painters of America and has achieved Signature membership status in the Louisiana Watercolor Society and the Plein Air Artists of Colorado. Chuck has won numerous awards and has had work accepted into prestigious national juried competitions, such as the Oil Painters of America National Show (2020, 2021), Western Regional Show (2016, 2021, 2022) and Salon Show (2016, 2020).
After 28 years in Louisiana, Chuck and his wife, Barbara, moved to Fredericksburg, Texas, in 2005, in order to pursue their passion for art on a full-time basis. In 2008, Chuck started teaching a beginner’s oil painting class and later intermediate classes in composition, landscape painting, and limited palettes. He is represented by Charles Morin Fine Art in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Degrees in chemistry from Southern Methodist University (B.S.) and the University of Texas (PhD) led to Chuck's career in research at ExxonMobil Process Research Labs in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Hildegarde Hume Hamilton (1898 - 1970) was active/lived in Florida, Virginia. He is known for Impressionist buildings in landscape and coastal view painting, illustration.
Hildegard Hume Hamilton was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1898. After her education there, and brief training at the age of six in art schools in Venice, Italy, while on a European sojourn with her father, she studied fine art at the Académie Julian, the École des Beaux-Arts and the Académie Grande Chaumière in Paris, France, during the 1920s and 1930s.
Back in the United States, Hamilton studied for a short time at the Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis, the Cincinnati Art Academy and under the tutelage of the landscape and maritime painter Anthony Thieme (1888-1954) in Rockport, Massachusetts. The Ainslie Galleries on Fifth Avenue held an exhibit of Hamilton’s French Alpine Scenes to much acclaim. Hamilton exhibited in venues throughout the city and sold as many as 300 landscapes. In 1927, Vice President Charles Gates Dawes acquired one of Hamilton’s paintings following her one person exhibit at the Women’s National Party Headquarters in Washington D.C. In the autumn of 1928, an exhibition of her landscapes and cityscapes at the Galerie Bernheim Jeune in Paris was widely and positively reviewed. In 1929, she became the first American woman to exhibit at Philip Dillon’s club –
L’Artistique, in Provence. She also contributed to the Salon des Artistes Independants in Paris. In 1930, Hamilton exhibited at the Carlton Hotel in Washington D.C. and in New York at the Grand Central Palace, American Art Association-Anderson Galleries on 57th Street, and the Huntington Bay and Yacht Clubs. During this period, the artist resided at 9 Gramercy Park in New York City. The picturesque neighborhood inspired Hamilton’s painting entitled 4 Gramercy Park, Mayor Harper’s House, Manhattan. C. 1930. The oil painting captures the red brick façade and intricate cast iron embellishments of 4 Gramercy Park, the former home of publisher and New York City Mayor James Harper (1795- 1869). The two lamps at the foot of the steps signify the home was a mayoral residence and remain at the site to this day. Mrs. Hamilton studied at the Art Students League, New York, New York, and the Cincinnati Art Academy, Cincinnati, Ohio. Hamilton exhibited her topographical street-scenes and landscapes widely throughout the United States with shows at the Syracuse, New York, Museum of Fine Art; the University of Kentucky; the University of Georgia, and most importantly, New York City’s Society of Independent Artists from 1929 to 1933, 1938, 1939, 1943 and 1944. She also illustrated books. This artwork "Sitting Nude" c.1990, is an oil painting on hardboard panel by noted American artist Howard Rogers, b.1932. It is signed at the lower right corner by the artist. The artwork (panel) size is 8.85 x 11.85 inches, framed size is 17.75 x 21 inches. Framed in original wooden gold and grey frame, with fabric liner and gold bevel. It is in excellent condition, the frame have very small minor restorations, practically invisible.
About the artist:
Howard Rogers wanted to be an artist for as long as he could remember. "I had no idea what an artist was when I was a kid," he laughs. "But I had a distant cousin who had gone to art school and I saw some of his drawings. They really impressed me." Born and raised in San Diego, California, Rogers now focuses on the future: "I kind of enjoy today and tomorrow and to heck with yesterday."
While in high school, Rogers took some art classes and served as an apprentice sign painter, eventually becoming a journeyman. He was also a member of his high school track team, competing in the high jump, the hurdles and cross-country, as well as doing some bike racing. Following a stint in the Army, he began training for the Olympics in bike racing, trying out in 1948, 1952 and 1956. Today, "I ride a stationary bike in front of my easel three times a week."

Anthony Thieme was born in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam in 1888. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, at the Royal Academy at the Hague, as an apprentice to George Hoecker, a well known stage designer in Düsseldorf, Germany, and to Antonio Mancini, an Italian Impressionist. After completing his studies, Thieme journeyed throughout Europe and South America, working in stage design to support his travels. Thieme first came to the United States in 1917 and initially worked as a set designer and book illustrator first in New York and later in Boston.
By the late 1920s, Thieme had married and moved from Boston to Cape Ann in Rockport, Massachusetts, an emerging art colony. Like the other Rockport artists...

About the artist.
Coming from a very western tradition in Wyoming, John Maxon developed an expansive view of nature . Moving eventually to the San Francisco Bay area, John's delight in the effects of light and color led him to the decision to become an artist at the young age of 15. His natural ability was encouraged, and at 16 he began figurative art classes with Howard Brodie, the artist well known for his WWII correspondence, drawings and the Watergate trial drawings.
