Located in Palm Beach, FL
Walter Schnackenberg’s style changed several times during his long and successful career. Having studied in Munich, the artist traveled often to Paris where he fell under the spell of the Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s colorful and sensuous posters depicting theatrical and decadent subjects. Schnackenberg became a regular contributor of similar compositions to the German magazines Jugend and Simplicissimus before devoting himself to the design of stage scenery and costumes. In the artist’s theatrical work, his mastery of form, ornamentation, and Orientalism became increasingly evident. He excelled at combining fluid Art Nouveau outlines, with spiky Expressionist passages, and the postures and patterns of the mysterious East. In his later years, Schnackenberg explored the unconscious, using surreal subject matter and paler colors that plainly portrayed dreams and visions, some imbued with political connotations. His drawings, illustrations, folio prints, and posters are highly sought today for their exceedingly imaginative qualities, enchanting subject matter, and arresting use of color. Original Moutarde AMORA Condiments vintage French antique poster linen-backed
Located in Spokane, WA
Original Amora Mustard Poster by Leon Dupin – Archival linen-backed French lithograph. Very fine to excellent condition. Undated, but it is presumed to be from the 1930s. No restoration or damage. Excellent colors on French antique (light crème) paper. A striking original vintage poster advertising Amora Mustard, designed by the renowned French artist Leon Dupin. This authentic piece features Dupin’s signature style and vibrant imagery, capturing the classic French culinary spirit that has made Amora a household name since the early 20th century. Art deco era. Consumed for thousands of years, mustard is a condiment known for its medicinal qualities. Around 1750, Jean-Baptiste Naigeon, the son of a master vinegar maker, revolutionized Dijon mustard by replacing vinegar with unripe grape juice. This new recipe made the mustard milder, more fragrant, and helped it last longer. In 1919, the Bizouard family, who had taken over the business, registered the 'Amora" brand. The name is credited to Armand Bizouard, who, upon tasting the mustard, is said to have exclaimed, "This is a wonderful mustard, it will be Amora!" Amora was the name of the rising sun god Ra Ora (Amon Ra). Enchanted by this divine connection, the new brand name was adopted. A striking vintage poster advertising Amora Mustard, designed by the renowned French artist Leon Dupin. This authentic piece showcases Dupin’s signature style and vibrant imagery, capturing the classic French culinary spirit that has made Amora a household name since the early 20th century. The poster is professionally archival, linen-backed, and ready to be framed to your exact specifications, ensuring preservation and stability. Condition is excellent, with vivid colors and crisp lines throughout—a testament to its careful conservation. Rarely available and with only a few copies found over the years, this piece is essential for collectors of vintage French ephemera...

PKZ Coat
Located in New York, NY
Baumberger, Otto. PKZ 1923, Color lithograph, On Linen 50 1/2 x 35 1/2” Baumberger was one of the most prolific Swiss poster artists, with well over 200 designs to his credit. Beginning in 1917, he regularly worked for PKZ. This poster is not only the best he produced for the company but is also an icon in poster history. The tweed coat is rendered in near-photographic perfection to the point where you can practically feel the fabric. Baumberger took a totally new approach to advertising by ingeniously incorporating the poster's text into the image in the form of the label in the coat. With this poster Baumberger cemented his role as master of the "Object Poster," (a title he earned four years earlier with a classic image of a top hat), and began the trend of "New Objectivity" within the Swiss school of Graphic Design. A sensation from the day it was issued, this image remains compelling and proves to be one of the finest of the PKZ posters...

Le Roi Yvetot, 1919 (no. 227)
Located in Greenwich, CT
Le Roi Yvetot (no. 227) from 1919 is a gouache painting on tissue paper mounted on board. The image size is 9.25 x 6 inches, framed in a gold-tone frame, 22.5 x 19 inches. Signed recto 'Erté' lower right, in the image and annotated verso, 'Les Rois des Lègendes, No 8, Le Roi Yvetot 227'. Erte name and 'Composition originale' stamps verso. Le Roi Yvetot is a design by Erte for the 1919 theater production of Les Rois des Lègendes. The King of Yvetot William Makepeace Thackeray: 1811 –1863 There was a king of Yvetot, Of whom renown hath little said, Who let all thoughts of glory go, And dawdled half his days a-bed; And every night, as night came round, By Jenny, with a nightcap crowned, Slept very sound: Sing ho, ho, ho! and he, he, he! That's the kind of king for me. And every day it came to pass, That four lusty meals made he; And, step by step, upon an ass, Rode abroad, his realms to see; And wherever he did stir, What think you was his escort, sir? Why, an old cur. Sing ho, ho, ho! and he, he, he! If e'er he went into excess, 'Twas from a somewhat lively thirst; But he who would his subjects bless, Odd's fish!—must wet his whistle first; And sofrom every cask they got, Our king did to himself allot, At least a pot. Sing ho, ho, ho! and he, he, he! To all the ladies of the land, A courteous king, and kind, was he; The reason why you'll understand, They named him Pater Patriae. Each year he called his fighting men, And marched a...
