George 111 period Chippendale Armchair finely carved, Circa 1760
By Thomas Chippendale
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a superb hardwood, Mid Georgian, Thomas Chippendale period Armchair of excellent wide proportions and superb colour, which we date to the mid 18th century, George 111rd period, circa 1760. The Arm Chair has many fine features: Excellent wide proportions. Fine Scroll Arms. Similar carved Scroll Ears to ends of cresting rails. Intersecting ribbon pierced splat with carved detail. Fluted side rails to back. The pegged and jointed legs are square with an inside chamfer on both back and front legs. It has a drop-in seat with a very light green plain fabric. This drop in seat allows for an easy change of fabric covering to one of choice, by reupholstering the seat. The proportion of this chair is excellent with very good width and a good rake to the back and rear legs. The hardwood, possibly Walnut, has developed a beautiful mellow colour and patina with age and polishing over the years. Overall a fine quality, English Georgian Arm Chair...

Set of Four Baroque Style Carved Giltwood and Velvet Throne Armchairs
Located in London, GB
Set of four Baroque style carved giltwood and velvet throne armchairs Italian, 20th Century Height 170cm, width 93cm, depth 73cm This magnificent set of four throne armchairs was crafted in Italy during the 20th century. Their design is inspired by the Baroque style, popular in Europe in the 17th and early 18th centuries. Each armchair is adorned with an intricately carved giltwood frame, featuring pierced backs lavishly decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves. The top rail of each backrest is carved with two putti perched atop grape vines, likely a nod to Bacchus, the Greco-Roman god of wine and celebration. These figures flank a central cartouche filled with additional ornate scrollwork. At the centre of the backrests is a coat of arms surrounded by more detailed acanthus carvings. Upholstered in sumptuous maroon velvet, the seats and armrests offer both luxury and comfort. The armrests culminate in striking carved winged busts, supported by scrolling elements that further enhance the armchairs' regal presence. Each throne stands on four legs, with the front two carved into lion paws—a popular symbol of strength and majesty. The cabriole-style legs are embellished with acanthus leaves at the knees, while the stretchers and aprons are decorated with more acanthus detailing, some parts complemented by delicate floral motifs. Embodying the decorative richness of the Baroque period, this set of thrones...

Mahogany is probably one of the largest ‘families’ of hardwood, having many different varieties within its own species. Mahogany has been used for centuries in ship building, house building, furniture making etc and is the core structure of just about every 19th century vanity box, dressing case or jewelry box. It became more of a Victorian trend to dress mahogany with these decorative veneers, such as burr walnut and coromandel, so that the actual mahogany was almost hidden from view. Mahogany itself is a rich reddish brown wood that can range from being plain in appearance to something that is so vibrant, figured and almost three dimensional in effect. Although mahogany was most often used in its solid form, it also provided some beautifully figured varieties of veneer like ‘flame’ mahogany and ‘fiddleback’ mahogany (named after its preferred use in the manufacture of fine musical instruments). Cuban mahogany was so sought after, that by the late 1850s, this particular variety became all but extinct. Scottish leather These chairs are upholstered in top quality Scottish cow...
