Lately, it seems like there isn’t a singer, actress, model or reality star who doesn’t have a side hustle as an entrepreneur. And these enterprising women are changing the game when it comes to professional attire. Earlier this fall, we noted the vogue for very Notting Hill leather blazers. Currently, we’re noticing another trending jacket that’s an even earlier throwback. The hourglass blazer is straight out of the 1980s, and we’re seeing it on runways and worn by influential celebrities.
Per The Zoe Report, Kendall Jenner is one prominent fan of the style. Back in August, the model and 818 Tequila founder stepped out in a vintage Thierry Mugler skirt suit with an hourglass blazer, pairing it with an Hermès Mini Kelly. Rhode founder and fellow Mugler fiend Hailey Bieber has put her stamp of approval on the jacket as well, sporting a simpler all-black example in a photo on Instagram. Both stars wore versions of the look at this year’s Met Gala, with Jenner in a Torishéju ensemble and a Bieber in a Saint Laurent mini blazer dress.
Elle points out that recent collections from both Mugler and Jean Paul Gaultier feature blazers with fitted bodices and dramatically heightened shoulders. As women continue to reach for this more audacious and feminine silhouette, the boxy blazer with its effortless air, which has been all the rage in recent years, just might be officially losing its grip.
