Questions About Vintage Lord and Taylor
  • 1stDibs ExpertNovember 13, 2024
The reason why it is called Lord and Taylor relates to the history of the department store chain. In 1824, Samuel Lord founded a dry goods store in Manhattan, New York. A decade later, Lord's brother-in-law, George Washington Taylor, became a partner in the business. At this time, the company got its new name, Lord Taylor. Over the years that followed, Lord Taylor became focused on the sale of luxury goods and gradually grew. By the 21st century, the chain included more than 80 locations.
