Azzedine Alaïa’s collaboration with French discount retail chain Tati in 1991 marked one of the first high/low collaborations in fashion history (preceding the likes of H&M x Versace, Target x Rodarte and GAP x Yeezy by decades) and was inspired by artist Julian Schnabel’s use of the brand’s iconic Vichy houndstooth print as a backdrop for a series of paintings.
