Alexandre Lunois Figurative Prints

1863-1916

Alexandre Lunois was born on February 2, 1863, in Paris. Lunois was an autodidact and is considered to be the re-inventor of the lithotint technique. His first works were black and white lithographs, including "Scenes from a Life in Paris," "The Circus" and "Dutch Scenes." Inspired by his yearly travels, Alexandre Lunois went more and more to color lithography. He produced the illustrations for Theophile Gautier's "Fortunio," among others. Alexandre Lunois also worked as an engraver from 1907 onwards and published a luxury edition of the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen with 66 of his engravings under the title "Histoires et Aventures" in his own publishing house. Lunois died on September 2, 1916, in Le-Pecq.

L inspiré Self Portrait Marc Chagall Valentina Vava Lithograph 1963 Mourlot 398
By Marc Chagall
Located in Eversholt, Bedfordshire
Inspiration or L'inspiré - The artist and his wife, self-portrait. This is a self-portrait of the great artist, depicting him as lost in thought before one of his paintings, which is apparently related to his home country Russia, as suggested by the small figure in the lower right of the work. Chagall’s wife Valentina (“Vava”), who was also from Russia, is looking over his shoulder, full of longing. The small surreal elements that are characteristic of Chagall’s paintings are also present here: the silhouettes of the houses that seems to stick out of the painting and a figure with a flute or trombone standing on its head. Chagall Lithographe, Volume II of the catalogue raisonné of Chagall's lithographic work, see Mourlot 398, 1957-1962, Paris 1963, imprinted by Imprimerie Mourlot for the publisher André Sauret. A lithographic plate from the catalog that was published in 10,000 copies. Condition : Excellent Set inside a cream mount bearing brass cartellino Visible sheet size length 23cm, Height 31.50cm In a carved and gilded frame Frame size Length 44cm, Height 55.5cm The reverse with a paper label in Japanese Provenance : Private Collection, purchased with Lovers in Grey

Art deco era. Consumed for thousands of years, mustard is a condiment known for its medicinal qualities. Around 1750, Jean-Baptiste Naigeon, the son of a master vinegar maker, revolutionized Dijon mustard by replacing vinegar with unripe grape juice. This new recipe made the mustard milder, more fragrant, and helped it last longer. In 1919, the Bizouard family, who had taken over the business, registered the 'Amora" brand. The name is credited to Armand Bizouard, who, upon tasting the mustard, is said to have exclaimed, "This is a wonderful mustard, it will be Amora!" Amora was the name of the rising sun god Ra Ora (Amon Ra). Enchanted by this divine connection, the new brand name was adopted. A striking vintage poster advertising Amora Mustard, designed by the renowned French artist Leon Dupin. This authentic piece showcases Dupin’s signature style and vibrant imagery, capturing the classic French culinary spirit that has made Amora a household name since the early 20th century. The poster is professionally archival, linen-backed, and ready to be framed to your exact specifications, ensuring preservation and stability. Condition is excellent, with vivid colors and crisp lines throughout—a testament to its careful conservation.
