Alexis Portilla Figurative Paintings

American, Mexican

Mexican-born New York City-based artist Alexis Portilla draws heavily on his surroundings, creating richly textured, atmospheric paintings and prints that feature characteristics commonly associated with Abstract Expressionist and Neo-Expressionist art.

He worked as a faculty instructor at Columbia teaching printmaking while maintaining his New York-based art studio. His work is held in public and corporate collections including Pepsi Co., Harvard University, Penn State University and the New York Public Library, among others, with over 250 private collectors worldwide.

Portilla’s exhibition history dates back over 20 years and covers the globe. Portilla’s work has received international press attention and has been reviewed in several publications, including Artnews. He has been a faculty instructor at Columbia University, where he taught printmaking to graduate and postgraduate students. “New York painter Alexis Portilla[’s] layered compositions deserve serious attention.” –Art Market Report, Summer 2017 “[Portilla] both builds and excavates his canvases with broad swaths of paint, textured imprints, and scrapes and scratches, layering lines over drifting expanses of rich color [...] recalling Basquiat and Twombly-lyrical paintings that hover between pure abstraction and the evocation of unknown atmospheric spaces.” –Karen Sundberg, Artsy, December 2014 “Using simple forms and creating swathes of rich texture, Alexis Portilla builds atmospheric abstract paintings that convey a sense of time having passed. Zahra - Figurative Original Artwork on Wood Panel Woman Colorful
By Eddy Lee
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Eddy Lee’s figurative surrealist portrait paintings on exposed wood depict emotive sirens who evoke a sense of mystery and seductiveness. His original artworks combine geometric elements with innocent women portraits seeking to trigger emotions, rather than communicating specific explanations. He reconciles the unconscious with rational life, exploring the power of dreams, embracing automatism, and freeing his subjects from the constraints of conscious thought. This colorful, intriguing woman portrait is painted with acrylic and gouache on a hand-built cradled wood panel. This one-of-a-kind original artwork is 24 inches high by 48 inches wide and is signed by the artist on the back. It is wired and ready to hang. It does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with this unique work. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Eddy Lee relocated to Los Angeles in late 2012 to pursue a full-time career as a fine artist. He started his career on the Venice Beach Boardwalk and quickly gained a large following across the United States with exhibitions in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. The artist’s work is inspired by the works of Audrey Kawasaki...
