Antonio Ross Y Guell Art

Antonio Ross Y Guell was a Spanish artist, designer and decorator. He studied in the La Lonja School of Fine Arts in his hometown of Barcelona with Benito Mercader and Urgelles. He exhibited regularly in the theatres and Sala Parés, Barcelona, Galeria Joan Gaspar, Barcelona and La Casa del Libro, Madrid. His works are also shown in Madrid, Paris, Vienna and Buenos Aires. He obtained the following awards — second medal in Athens in 1903, Madrid in 1908 and Mexico in 1910, third medal in Madrid in 1910, Buenos Aires and the Salon de Paris. He was secretary of The Society of Catalan Artists founded in 1908. In 1903, he exhibited a series of landscapes inspired by his travels along the coast to Emporda, Banyoles and Cadaques at the Salon de Paris. These works in part show a view; the romance and crepuscular lighting undoubtedly helped cement his reputation as a painter. His style reveals a debt to the art style not unrelated to the poetics of Santiago Rusinol’s Gardens of the Generalife. His work is housed in many public and private collections including the City Council of Valladolid.
