Billy Schenck Art

American, b. 1947
Billy Schenck has been known internationally for 44 years as one of the originators of the contemporary 'Pop' western art movement. He is an American painter who incorporates techniques from Photo-Realism with a Pop Art sensibility to both exalt and poke fun at images of the West. Schenck has had over 100 solo shows. His work is in the permanent collections of 48 museums and important private and corporate collections. Museum collections include the Smithsonian, Mesa Southwest Museum, The Tucson Museum of Art, The Denver Art Museum, Museum of the Southwest, Midland TX, Albuquerque Fine Arts Museum and the New Mexico Museum of Art. Private collections include the estate of Malcolm Forbes, Steve Forbes, Chris Evert, Elaine Horwitch, Louis Meisel, Martina Navratilova, Laurance Rockefeller, Fritz Scholder and Sylvester Stallone. Corporate collections include: American Airlines, I.B.M., Raymond James Financial, Wells Fargo Bank, Hilton Hotels, Sturm Ruger and The National Bank of Switzerland. “What has remained constant throughout Schenck’s career is his individuality in dealing with the subject matter of the west. Using the artistic formula of classic western film direction and the photographically reliant systems of contemporary art, he has bridged two genres that resonate with the American experience. From early depictions of cinematic cowboys to real-life cowboys and cowgirls to poetic reveries about the Native American existence in the Southwest, Schenck melds the real with the imagined, autobiography with fantasy.” -Julie Sasse, Chief Curator and Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Tucson Museum of Art.

"Ben-day Sophia 1" Mixed media, Acrylic, spray paint, pigmented ink 36x28 canvas
By Ceravolo
Located in Southampton, NY
"Benday Sophia 1" pays tribute to those paintings that became the trademark of Ceravolo's unique and trend setting style of painting. His work is collected worldwide and is in many important collections including, Sir Elton John, Rod Stewart, Hugh Hefner and Prince Jefri of Brunei to name only a few. In addition to those, his paintings came to popular attention when he was commissioned to create 5 large scale paintings for the lobby of The Palladium Theatre in New York City. In this painting, Ceravolo has featured an image of his pop art painting of Sophia Loren, and combined it with a pattern of benday dots to create the basis of "Benday Sophia 1". He then paints his trademark brush strokes and textures on the canvas over the pop art portrait. Then, he paints the "floating" illusion that creates the 3d floating effect he is known for. The Canvas measures 36x28".

"Down The Mario Hole" Mixed media Painting 47" x 41" inch by John Paul Fauves
By John Paul Fauves
Located in Culver City, CA
"Down The Mario Hole" Mixed media Painting 47" x 41" inch by John Paul Fauves 2017 Mixed media, acrylic and oil on canvas 47" × 41" inch From GUCCI in Wonderland series GUCCI in Wonderland series contains two parts. First one, GUCCI in wonderland, is an inspiration that came to John Paul Fauves after doing a 10 piece collection of some Alessandro Michele art campaigns. There was so much magic realism in the GUCCI brand and concept that transcended from being a clothing label to something more surreal. It is here when the artist decides to give a hold to his new collection for 2018 named "holy exit" and dive into this new world of colors and wonders. The second part, Alice in Wonderland, represents the artist a world of fantasy and dreams. It seems as if the author Lewis Caroll could write like a dream. The same concept of surrealism is what FAUVES feels about Gucci design and branding. It as if Gucci can design and create form the world of dreams, and this is what the artist wants to represent in his art GUCCI in wonderland. ABOUT John Paul FAUVES: John Paul Fauves (born in 1980) is a contemporary Artist from Costa Rica . His artistic journey started at a very young age after he became a student of Joaquin Rodriguez del Paso , one of the most important Costa Rican modern art tutors. John Paul spent 15 years studying and mastering his technique, and only a few years ago he finally started showcasing his work. In his paintings he engages questions of identity as they relate to art history as well as our everyday interactions with mainstream culture and social media. Greatly inspired by modernist masters as wellas pop-artists, Fauves mixes fragments of different iconic images in vivid and colourful compositions. Of his experimental and high eclectic style, he says, “art is an expression from the soul, and the soul is somethinglimitless. This is why I am always searching for different elements to bring into the work.” 2019: Alts Iz farloyrn, Los Angeles, CA Portraits of Someone, London 2018: [ Mi / Me ] solo exhibition at DOPENESS ART LAB, Taipei, Taiwan Arte de La Peer Papi Chulo group exhibition, Krause gallery, NYC Down the Rabbit Hole group exhibition, Imitate London, London, UK ARCO Madrid Art Palm Beach, Miami 2017: Art Basel Miami PIXELS Pre-Basel group exhibition by JM Art Management at Laurent Martin gallery LA Style Fashion week FACES, group exhibition by JM Art Management at HOMME gallery A Loss of Innocence, solo exhibition Guy Hepner...

Advance of Western Civilization_Billy Schenck_Oil_ Figurative/Text/Pop Western
By Billy Schenck
Located in Laguna Beach, CA
BILLY SCHENCK "Advance of Western Civilization" Oil on Canvas 36 x 42 in. Framed Billy Schenck utilizes specific frames of reference in his oil on canvas depictions of the American West, establishing visual links between notable moments of American and film history, along with the history of visual modes of production. Stark contrasts, use of pattern, vivid hues, and a pop sensibility imbibe the work with a contemporary edge, while taking on some of the most popular tropes of Hollywood’s film industry. Frequent motifs in Schenck’s work include heroes, villains, the seductive femme fatale, as well as alluring imagery of Native American figures, frequently juxtaposed with subversive text or a winking acquiescence via visual symbols or motifs. Schenck sources his imagery from both personal references as well as historical sources such as newspapers and other print media tying his personal narratives to those that came before. One of the originators of the Western pop art movement, Billy Schenck incorporates techniques from photorealism with a pop art sensibility to both exalt and poke fun at images of the West. Schenck is known for utilizing cinematic imagery reproduced in a flattened, reductive style, where colors are displayed side-by-side rather than blended or shadowed. Schenck’s artwork is now in 48 museum collections, including Smithsonian Institution, Denver Art Museum, Autry Museum of the American West, Booth Western Art Museum, Tucson Museum of Art, Phoenix Art Museum, the Mesa Southwest Museum, Museum of the Southwest, Midland TX, Albuquerque Fine Arts Museum and the New Mexico Museum of Art. Private collections include the estate of Malcolm Forbes, Laurance Rockefeller, the estate of Fritz Scholder, and Sylvester Stallone. Corporate collections include American Airlines, IBM and Sony. A genuine cowboy himself, Schenck is a ranch-sorting world champion and the proprietor of the Double Standard Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico, his home for the past two decades. "47 years ago I left the Kansas City Art Institute with a B.F.A. in Painting. One week later I was in New York City to begin the launch of my career as an artist. I had no clue as to what that meant specifically - It was, however, the right move. I began making paintings based on black and white movie stills...
