Carlos Nadal was born in Paris in 1917. Within four years, his family moved to Barcelona.
Nadal’s father owned a commercial design workshop. There he began to work as an apprentice and learned to paint in his early teens. He took art classes at a school on Barcelona’s Calle Caspe. In 1935 Nadal won three awards, including an award from the Watercolors Association of Barcelona, the Mural Composition Count Lavern and the Masriera prize. A year later, Nadal received a scholarship from the Barcelona City Council and because of which he was able to attend the Escola Superior de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi.
Nadal exhibited for the first time in a collective exhibition at the Galeries Dalmau in 1941, and he had his first solo exhibition at La Pinacoteca in Barcelona in 1944. In 1946 the Barcelona City Council again granted him a scholarship to continue his education in Paris at École des Beaux-Arts. In the French capital, he took part in the Autumn Salons.
In 1948 Nadal married the Belgian sculptor Flore Joris and moved to live in Belgium. Here, he stated that he discovered the effects of light on painting and the use of color that would already be a distinctive sign of his work. The influence of Fauvism on Nadal’s paintings was remarkably clear. There was continuous success for the artist in Belgium and he remained very active, exhibiting there as well as in France, Spain, Amsterdam and the United States. His subjects were varied and included beaches, urban landscapes, natural landscapes, seascapes and more.
In 1954 Nadal exhibited with great success at Kunstverein Düsseldorf and at the Royal Academy in London, and won the painting prize at the International SPA Contest. During the same year, he met Pablo Picasso on the Côte d'Azur and began a great friendship with the artist. Nadal’s work can be found in the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, the Royal Museum of Brussels and more.

Patricia Gren Hayes (American, b. 1932) is a Bay Area Figurative & Feminist Art Movement artist who studied at Winnipeg Public Art School in 1950. She received early recognition in Museum and Gallery competitions and exhibitions and was awarded a Special Education in Art recognition by the Winnipeg Museum of Fine Art, and was awarded a scholarship to the Banff College of Fine Art. Further studies were at The University of Manitoba.
She was a Member of Winnipeg Free Press Sketch Club and was a Cartoonist and paste-up for a French-English bi-weekly, in Eastern Canada;
She studied outdoor impressionism in New York in 1960; in 1962, attended The California College of Arts and Crafts, and in 1976 B.A., U.C. Berkeley where she studied under Elmer Bischoff, David Simpson, Joan Brown, Felix Ruvolo, Yolanda Lopez and Vincent Perez.
She started a freelance commercial art business in 1963; copyrighted a National Cartoon, 1976, and served as Exhibition Director for San Francisco Woman Artists Gallery and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, 1976-1978. She was a workshop instructor at the San Francisco Woman Artists Gallery, 1977-1985; and was Manager/Owner Stanton Art Gallery, Alameda, CA, 1976-1982.

Carlos Nadal was born in Paris in 1917, in 1921 with four years he moved with his family to Barcelona.
It is formed at the School of La Lonja. In 1935 he won three awards: the one of the Watercolors Association of Barcelona, the Mural Composition Count Lavern and the Masriera prize.
In 1936 he received a scholarship from the Barcelona City Council, thanks to which he was able to enter the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts.
He exhibited for the first time in a collective exhibition at the Dalmau gallery in 1941.
In 1944 he made his first individual show at the La Pinacoteca room in Barcelona.
In 1946, the City Council of the city of Barcelona granted him a scholarship to continue his information in Paris at L´École des Beaux Arts. In the French capital he participated in the halls of Autumn.
In 1948 he married the Belgian sculpture Flore Zoe Jovi and moved to live in Belgium. Here, as he confessed, he discovered the effects of light on painting and the use of color that would already be a distinctive sign in his work. The influence of the Fauve was remarkable. They were a few years of continuous successes and excessive activity, exhibited in Belgium, France, Spain, Amsterdan and the United States.
His subjects were very varied; beaches, urban landscape, natural landscape, seascapes, etc.
In 1954 he exhibited with great success Kunsterein Düsseldorf and at the Royal Academy in London, and won the painting prize at the International SPA Contest.
This same year he meets Picasso on the Côte d'Azur and begins a great friendship.
This work by Ostende, this beautiful coastal town in Belgium, is already in full pictorial muteness.
The ease of its graphics that arises independently of the spots of color, gives life to this Belgian village. Carlos Nadal shows us the way to the sea in an intuitive and innocent way as in the stories, which seduces us.
The desired sea is barely seen, but intuited, through the cheerful colors of the beach huts that are lost with the nearby villas.
