Carolina Mizrahi Photography
Brazilian
Carolina Mizrahi creates fantasy characters and set designs. Through the creation of her own constructed surreal world, Mizrahi's works are an investigation into gender stereotypes, beauty rituals, and the representation of women in media. The imposing color palette creates an illusory sense of fantasy, which opens the door to endless potential messages. The artist combines set design, styling, and art direction, mainly working with photography.
Mizrahi was born in 1982 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and lives and works in London, United Kingdom. With a background in fashion design, the artist holds a master in fashion business management. In 2013, Carolina graduated with a BA in fashion photography and styling from the London College of Fashion. Among her collectors and clients are Vogue Italy, Vogue Portugal, Vogue Brazil, Elle UK, Pandora, Time Out Magazine, and the University of the Arts London. The artist has been exhibited worldwide and recently has been pointed as one of the next rising stars in fashion photography by The University of the Arts London.to

Karen Knorr Artist Biography
While Knorr’s images take some of their inspiration from the Indian tradition of personifying animals in literature and art, there is another almost subconscious strain to her work. Going back to the time of cave painting we see that these early visual artists not only recorded their lives and surroundings, but used art to express themselves. The depiction of animals in symbolic and powerful ways and the urge to create these images with the best tools at hand is a line stretching from these unnamed cave painters to Karen Knorr.
Playfully combining technologies and genres, Knorr mixes digital...

Into The Abyss, Kailua Kona, Hawaii, 2019
By Dinesh Boaz
Located in Hudson, NY

The Robin Rice Gallery is pleased to present At 1000 Feet, a photographic exhibition by Dinesh Boaz. The opening reception will be held on Wednesday, November 6th from 6pm to 8pm. The show will run through January 5, 2020. At 1000 Feet is Boaz’s first solo exhibition at the Robin Rice Gallery.
As a photographer, Boaz defies a traditional approach to perspective and instead situates himself quite literally in the sky above. The resulting work is breathtaking and arresting. Each image captured by Boaz offers his audiences a rare composition of both nature and civilization in all their complexity. Originally a recording studio owner and music producer in New York City, Boaz became an avid aerial photographer almost entirely by accident after he won a “doors off” helicopter ride over Manhattan that opened his eyes to a new realm of experience. The oddity of what he saw sparked a deep fascination that led Boaz to return again and again to the cramped cockpits of such helicopters until he found in them a studio at 1000 feet above.
Flying well away from the world below, Boaz holds an eye in the sky. With it, he surveys terrain and develops concepts in real time as colors and textures flood into sight during each ride. Working under the throbbing sounds of the propellers overhead, Boaz directs the pilot over radio and creates spontaneous images of calm amidst chaos. In speaking of his method, he explains, “I seek out sound in my photos; I look to find those symbiotic patterns and fast-changing colors that play together in rhythm, similar to the layers that make up a beat.” Through this unique process, Boaz discovers a synesthetic harmony in each photograph just as he would if he was visualizing music on a track.
As a result, the 13 large-format dye sublimation prints of Hawaii, Israel, Arizona, California and Key West in this exhibition hold a lingering tranquility as they flow throughout the gallery. The exhibition’s invitational image “Desert Isle” shows the tides of an emerald green ocean washing over sunbeam yellow sands to form a vibrant ripple green that coalesces into an S-shaped coastline where distant row boats and sunbathers appear like ants. His visionary approach to expanding how audiences see the everyday is reminiscent of Andreas Gursky who did the same in Rhine II (1999) which captured the magnificence of the Rhine River with virtuoso ease.
Gifted with a sight of the world top down, Boaz’s aerial photography evokes a cosmic awareness of humanity as a tiny dot in the universe which borders on the surreal. He credits his influences to be Joan Miro, Christopher Nolan, Andreas Gursky, Annie Leibowitz and Edward Burtynsky. Born in India with deep roots in Sri Lanka, Boaz moved from Chennai to the United States. He studied Psychology at Rutgers University, but it was there that he also took his first photography class. After graduation, he ran a successful recording studio in Soho. Then, as he returned to photography, he took multiple courses including digital printmaking at the International Center of Photography. In May 2019, Boaz was announced as the winner of the National Geographic Adventure photography contest for his piece “All The People”.

Large Scale Photograph Archival Pigment Print, Detroit Color Photo Doug Rickard
By Doug Rickard
Located in Surfside, FL
Doug Rickard (American b.1968) Limited Edition Archival Pigment Print. Features the work titled; A New American Picture - Detroit. Signed on verso and numbered 4/5. Work: 26 in. x 41 1/2 in. Frame: 26 1/2 in. x 42 in.
Doug Rickard’s A New American Picture offers a startling and fresh perspective on American street photography. All of the images are appropriated from Google Street View; over a period of two years, Rickard took advantage of the technology platform’s comprehensive image archive to virtually drive the unseen and overlooked roads of America, bleak places that are forgotten, economically devastated, and abandoned. With an informed and deliberate eye, Rickard finds and decodes these previously photographed scenes of urban and rural decay.
A New American Picture depicts American street scenes, located using the internet platform Google Street View. Over a four-year period, Rickard took advantage of Google’s massive image archive to virtually explore the roads of America looking for forgotten, economically devastated, and largely abandoned places. After locating and composing scenes of urban and rural decay, Rickard re-photographed the images on his computer screen with a tripod- mounted camera, freeing the image from its technological origins and re-presenting them on a new documentary plane.
The low-resolution images that Rickard favors have a dissolved, painterly effect, and are occasionally populated with figures who acknowledge the camera, but whose faces are blurred, masking their identity. The photographs are thus imbued with an added surrealism and anonymity, which reinforces the isolation of the subjects and emphasizes the effects of an increasingly stratified American social structure.
Rickard’s work evokes a connection to the tradition of American street photography, with knowing references to Walker Evans, Robert Frank and Stephen Shore. He both follows and advances that tradition, with a documentary strategy that acknowledges an increasingly technological world—a world in which a camera mounted on a moving car can generate evidence of the people and places it is leaving behind. Collectively, these images present a photographic portrait of the socially disenfranchised and economically powerless, those living an inversion of the American Dream.Doug Rickard (born 1968) is an American artist and photographer. He uses technologies such as Google Street View and YouTube to find images, which he then photographs on his computer monitor. His photography has been published in books, exhibited in galleries and held in the permanent collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Rickard is best known for his book A New American Picture (2010). He is founder and publisher of the website on contemporary photography, American Suburb X, and the website These Americans which publishes some of his collection of found photographs. This work features a black, African American man in the foreground walking in a bleak neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan.
Rickard was born in San Jose, California and brought up in Los Gatos in the San Francisco Bay Area. His father was a prominent pastor and many family members were preachers and missionaries, with a "very Reaganesque, patriotic view of America", a country "special and unique". Rickard studied United States history—slavery, civil rights—and sociology, at University of California, San Diego, and "lost his faith in this family vision. His adult view of America was a land not just of great achievement but also of massive injustice." At age 12 he witnessed his father having a secret extramarital affair, that years later in 1988 he confessed to his congregation. Rickard says this experience prompted him "to look for the fault lines in the American dream." He lives in Shingle Springs, near Sacramento, California.
For his series A New American Picture, Rickard "wanted to look at the state of the country in these areas where opportunity is non-existent and where everything is broken down", where "the American dream was shattered or impossible to achieve". It is said that this work comments on United States politics, poverty, racial equality and the socioeconomic climate, class; the use of technology in art, privacy, surveillance, and the large quantity of images on the web. He cites as influences the photobooks American Photographs (1938) by Walker Evans, The Americans (1958) by Robert Frank, Uncommon Places (1982) by Stephen Shore and American Night (2003) by Paul Graham.
The work was first exhibited as part of Anonymes: Unnamed American in Photography and Film, curated by David Campany and Diane Dufour at Le Bal, Paris, in 2010. To mark that occasion Rickard produced the first edition of the book, with the publisher White Press. Its first American museum show was at New York's Museum of Modern Art.

Artist Biography -
Krantz occupies a unique place in the history of contemporary art for his imagery blending western landscape photography with the figure of the cowboy as depicted and romanticized in American popular culture. The technical underpinning of his work was established when he studied with Ansel Adams and Paul Caponigro, but perhaps more importantly, Krantz’s work reflects a dictum that he learned from Adams: “Technical proficiency leads to artistic freedom.” His range and versatility are his forte, working with ease in demanding and ever-changing conditions.
If Krantz’s work looks familiar, it is not surprising. Krantz, had been documenting the cinematic vistas of the American West for 20 years on commercial assignments and these much published images caught the eye of appropriation artist, Richard Prince, known for re-photographing advertisements and presenting the resulting images in a new “conceptual” context. Prince’s most famous series is his large scale reproductions of the cowboy images...
