Gorgeous early 20th Century American Impressionist landscape of Connecticut red house by George M. Bruestle (American, 1871 - 1939), November 1914. Signed lower left and on verso. Dated on verso. Presented in gilt-toned wood frame. Image size: 8"H x 10"W. George Matthew Bruestle is an American Realist/Impressionist painter known for his intimate landscapes. Born and raised in New York City, Bruestle studied at the Art Students' League of New York in 1886 at the young age of fifteen and later in Paris. That same year, Bruestle visited Essex, CT and eventually purchased a second home in Hadlyme, Old Lyme as the Art Colony formed. Bruestle's main studio was in New York City. Inspired by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot [1796-1875] and other French landscape painters, Bruestle's style was a mix of Early Realism and Early Impressionist techniques. He was an adept draftsman and his paintings favored earlier European examples but, later took on a brighter Impressionist palette and brushy quality of the Old Lyme Art...

Fine 19th century oil painting of a bustling Austrian/Germanic village with horse, rider and various figures outside an Inn, attributed to Arthur Georg Ramberg (1819-1879), well known for figurative genre paintings. The rider is carrying a bugle, apparently announcing news to the people; men are sitting by the table drinking, one with a raised stein. Women walking by stop to listen, a man carrying a sack has stopped to watch the rider, people are in the Inn doorway, and one is looking out the window. Children pause their playing. Dutch School, 17th century oil painting on board, this work features a golden ship on blue seas with white crests against a stormy clouded sky. In the distance more ships can be seen, and a spot of blue sky gives the stormy clouds relief. Light shines through the white clouds casting shadows of color on the gray storm and choppy sea waters. Dramatic and masterful. Presented in overall very good condition in what may be the original mahogany wood frame.
