A painter, illustrator, and cartoonist Pelletiere cites his early influences as the pre-code crime and horror comics. " Life in the metropolitan area plays a significant role in my artwork. For many years he made sketches of people in the transit system. Chris Pelletiere is a painter, collage artist, illustrator, and cartoonist. His work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, The New York Public Library and private collections of Stephen King, Zak Norman, Robert Bloch, and Ronald Dahl.
Artists Statement: "I am a painter, illustrator, and cartoonist. City life has always played a significant role in my work. Recently I did a series of collages, based on the theme of transit, exhibited at the New York Transit Museum. The series started when I began to sketch daily commuters in New York’s Penn Station. I incorporated a variety of media: cut newspaper and colored tissue, charcoal drawing, and painting with gouache. The resulting work reflects my interpretation of individuals and crowds moving through the public transit system. He created a new series of collages that depict a variety of above-ground urban scenes.”to
