Batwing Brass Chiavari Chair Gothic Green Velvet 1960s
By Chiavari
Located in Melbourne, AU
A splendid brass example of the Chiavari style first developed in the coastal town of Chiavari, south of Milan, Italy. This particular specimen is in excellent condition, with a lovely recent restoration of the upholstery, well cushioned, in a tasteful dark green velvet. The chair is in very sound condition and is of a higher quality than others we have handled - notably the shaping of the feet and the back are particularly fine. The original Chiavari chair is a delicate-boned creature in light-weight timber, designed to be both light and strong. It’s turned timber frame gave the opportunity for elaborate decoration which was popular in the mid to late 1800s. The brass version was created in the 1950s as a playful reference to the original, the brass emphasising the elaborate framework. It’s intended as a decorative chair for hallways, as a bedside chair, or can be used as a feature chair...

By Colombo Sanguineti, Figli Di Sanguineti
Located in Chiavari, Liguria
A rare set of six CS/2 model dining chairs made by Figli di Colombo Sanguineti during the 1960s in Chiavari. This model has been presented at the Milan Triennale in the 1954 and it can be found since then in the Sanguineti catalogues from the 1950s to the 1960s: these chairs can be considered a late production and they can be distinguished from the older versions by their clean and straight anterior legs. Their frames are made of a completely restored and refinished wild cherry wood. With a total weight of just 2.250 kg each, these chairs have a new cane seats and they are ready to last for the years to come. Chiavari chairs (Chiavarine) have a 200 years long history and since the beginning of their production they have evolved in several models being always recognisable for a distinctive frame structure which allow them to be one of the lightest chair in the world without compromising their sturdiness and stability. Between the 1930 and 1960s they have been one of the first choice of some of the most renowned Italian architects and interior designers when they had to select a dining chair able to fit their refined taste. Names of the likes as Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Ignazio Gardella, Piero Bottoni...
