Frederick James Aldridge Furniture

British, 1850-1933

Aldridge was an accomplished and very well known marine watercolour artist, who was active in the latter part of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Aldridge was known to paint under several pseudonyms, which notably included J. Hill, W. Stewart and F. Grayson. Also Aldridge sometimes, just signed with a monogram J.H., W.S. and F.G. One theory is that Aldridge may have painted under these pseudonyms to protect the sale value of works painted under his real name. Aldridge predominantly painted around the south of England, Shoreham in particular. He is also known for painting Dutch water scenes.
