Gerard Hordyk Landscape Paintings
Gerard Hordyk or Gerard Hordijk was born on September 12, 1899, in The Hague. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. In 1927 Hordyk moved to Paris where he had a studio on the La Rue du Départ, the studio building where fellow Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian, also lived and worked. During this time, Hordyk's work received even more recognition than Mondrian. Hordyk painted bathers at the Côte d'Azur, cityscapes and still lifes and exhibited in Paris. Like Mondrian, Hordyk moved to New York in 1940. The two met regularly and maintained a lifelong correspondence and friendship. Hordyk's works are held in the permanent collection of the Meentwijck, in Bussum, Netherlands. He died on October 15, 1958, in Amsterdam.
