Gio Colucci Furniture
Italian, 1892-1974
Gio Colucci, also known in France as Geo Colucci, was a painter, engraver, illustrator, ceramist and sculptor. From 1921, he exhibited his engravings in various salons. He worked with French publishers specializing in the illustrated books of high bibliophilia, and he also delivered a series of remarkable prints for texts by Barbey d'Aurevilly, Pierre Loti, Guy Maupassant, Octave Mirbeau, etc. In 1956, Colucci and Gino Severini founded the School of Italian Art in Paris. A major retrospective on his work took place in New York in 1959, when he also exhibited at the Quadrennial in Rome. Colucci died in 1974.

Gio Colucci (or Geo Colucci ), born in Florence 1 in 1892 and died in Paris in 1974, is an Italian artist. Prolific and eclectic, the Italian Gio Colucci, sometimes known in France under the name of Geo Colucci, practiced as a painter, engraver, illustrator, ceramist and sculptor. He entered the School of Fine Arts and then moved to Africa before the Great War. He then goes to Egypt where he embraces the profession of architect in Cairo. Inspired by his stay in the Middle East, he turned to abstract painting and, in 1917, returned to France. His older brother was the writer and publisher Guido Colucci , born in Naples : Guido and Gio collaborated on a number of books, Guido providing texts and Gio, illustrations. As an engraver, Gio Colucci produced etchings and woodcuts.
From 1921, he exhibited his engravings in various salons: the Salon d'automne , then the Surindépendants alongside Gleizes , Herbin , Robert Delaunay, among others. During this period, his work asserts a style close to expressionism, showing a singular energy, flirting with the fantastic. His palette is wide, his choices mastered. Very involved with French publishers specializing in the illustrated book of high bibliophilia , he delivers a series of remarkable prints for texts by Barbey d'Aurevilly , Pierre Loti , Guy Maupassant...
