Guy Allen Landscape Prints

British, b. 1987
Guy Allen is an experimental printmaker, exceptional draftsman and highly talented young British artist. Working hard between his studios in London and Norfolk, Guy’s trademark experimental approach to printmaking presents an exciting mix of colour, gold-leaf and an original, contemporary take on the traditional art of etchings.Studying at Central St Martins from 2008 – 2011 Guy discovered the printing press on a trip to the École Nationale Supérieure Des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Finding an art form that lent itself so perfectly to his artistic aspirations was a revelation. He has never looked back. Growing up in Norfolk, the countryside and his love of animals have had a lasting impact on Guy’s work. Regularly returning to his Norfolk roots to gather his thoughts and inspiration, his subjects are drawn directly from the Norfolk countryside and are all native species to the land he has known since childhood. This inspiration and drive to create is fuelled ever further by Guy’s love of the printing press. With distinctive style, striking ability and total commitment Guy has mastered his printing-making techniques. Constantly exploring the infinite possibilities and opportunities the medium offers, he breathes new life into traditional techniques and subject matter. Guy also has a huge philanthropic interest and supports many arts charities each year including Art For Youth, EACH, Keeping A Breast, Art For Cure and Well Child.

This is an original etching by Luigi Kasimir and is hand-signed by the artist. The notable etcher and painter, Luigi Kasimir, attended the Vienna Academy of Art where he studied under William Unger, who introduced him to colored etching. Kasimir was influenced by Anders Zorn and Karl von Kalckreuth and he furthered his studies with Sigmund L'Allemand. A pioneer in the technique of hand-colored etching, Kasimir began exhibiting in 1905 and received immediate critical recognition. Starting with a sketch, usually in pastel, Kasimir would transfer the design, by hand, onto as many as six plates, applying the color by hand to each plate. Luigi Kasimir's work is held in private and public collections throughout the world including in the permanent collections of New York's Metropolitan Museum and Smithsonian Museum, among others. Cyanotypes were then made famous by Anna Atkins, considered the first female photographer. Inspired by nature, we feel the need to look back at a craft that is handmade, analogue, and using an all-natural light source: the sun. Our cyanotypes are made by coating high-quality Italian watercolor paper with a light-sensitive emulsion. We then expose it in direct sunlight for several minutes using a photo negative to get the best image quality. Finally, the print is washed and fixed with water to stop the reaction and prevent fading. What you get is an amazing, royal blue image...
