Hsien Min Wang Art

Taiwanese, b. 1950

Hsien Min Wang, born into a renowned lacquerware family, studied the art from an early age under his father, Ching Shuang Wang, who was the first Taiwanese student to train in Japan during the colonial period and a highly respected master for over six decades. After graduating from university, Wang joined the family’s Mei-Yen Craft Company, focusing on the production and promotion of lacquerware. Together with his brother, Hsien Chih Wang, he has become a leading figure in Taiwanese lacquer art.

Wang’s works combine modern lacquer painting language with traditional techniques such as maki-e, takamaki-e, and gold-inlay. His floral motifs radiate brilliance, while vessels embody weight and elegance. Using deep black grounds, he highlights the unique luster of lacquer, creating a solemn and meditative atmosphere. Rooted in traditional craftsmanship yet enriched with contemporary aesthetics, Wang’s art bridges cultural heritage and modern expression, establishing him as one of Taiwan’s most significant lacquer artists.

Brooklyn Bridge I, contemporary and elegant, mixed media photography on wood
By Hugo Garcia-Urrutia
Located in Dallas, TX
This is a beautiful contemporary photograph of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. The photograph is processed in a way that the grain of the wood eventually becomes the "canvas" and backdrop for this image. It is processed directly on Baltic birch wood using archival inks and is then sealed with a durable semi-gloss lacquer. The set is composed of 9 pieces and they are very easy to install and transport. It is a set of 25 and only 5 editions remain available. HUGO G. URRUTIA Urrutia is an interdisciplinary artist, interested in the cross-pollination between art and architecture. A graduate and active member of the Architectural Association in the United Kingdom, Urrutia’s work creates a distinct spatiality located at the interstice of art and architecture. His work explores and uses the technology for design and fabrication, with a sensitive and conscious reminder of the creativity of human endeavor. Urrutia graduated from the Architectural Association in 2013, earning a Master of Architecture in the Design & Make programme. In 2000, he graduated from Texas Tech University, with a Bachelor of Architecture and Design and received the 2000 Outstanding Thesis Award.
