Itzchak Tarkay More Art
Israeli, 1935-2012
Itzchak Tarkay (1935 – June 3, 2012) was an Israeli artist. Tarkay was born in 1935 in Subotica, on the Yugoslav-Hungarian border. In 1944, Tarkay and his family were sent to the Mauthausen, a Nazi concentration camp, until Allied liberation freed them a year later. In 1949, his family emigrated to Israel, living in a Kibbutz for several years. Tarkay attended the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design from 1951, and graduated from the Avni Institue of Art and Design in 1956.
Tarkay's art is influenced by French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, particularly Matise and Toulouse-Lautrec. His work was exhibited at the International Art Expo in New York in 1986 and 1987. He has been the subject of three books, published by Dr. Israel Perry. Perry Art Gallery And Park West Gallery, his dealer. His art is focussed on almost dream images of elegant women in classical scenes which draw you into an imaginary world.
Few realize that Tarkay's early works were done by him personally to completion, but his later works were drawn by him and then colored in by helping artists on staff. This increased production, but that additional inventory reduced value of his total body of work. Today, the most important works by Tarkay are those that were done by his hand without assistance from others. Few dealers recognize this and many of Tarkay's pieces are not sorted out to distinguish his works from the works done by helper assistants to Tarkay. The value of "original" Tarkay works should increase in value, as Tarkay collectors begin to recognize the limited number of original works he made as opposed to the greater production which came later in Tarkay's career
Tarkay's wife is Bruria Tarkay. They have two sons, Adi and Itay Tarkay. On June 3, 2012, Tarkay died. Tarkay was 77.to

WHAT IS A CYANOTYPE?
cyan = blue
type = print
Cyanotype is a historic photographic processes, invented in 1842 and used by Anna Atkins–the first female photographer. The process involves coating watercolor paper with light-sensitive chemistry made of iron salts. Photographic negatives are laid on top, exposed in the sunlight, and then washed in water to develop into the deep Prussian-blue unique to cyanotypes. Brings a moment of beauty and conversation to any space.

Old Kolkata, Watercolour on Paper by Contemporary Artist
In Stock
By Saikat Maity
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Saikat Maity - Old Kolkata - 14 x 16 inches (Unframed Size)
Watercolour on Paper
Saikat uses the ‘wash’, ‘glaze’ and ‘wet in wet’ methods of application to produce a huge variety of striking works.
The artist has selected the iconic landmark of Kolkata city, during the peak of the British Empire in India. This ethereal scene with the Heritage Building and motor cab is captivating and encapsulates the character of the heritage city with drama and poise. The watercolor artist has avoided excessive detailing and by highlighting just the key features of a Heritage Building & Old Kolkata Streets with crumbling structures, results in a fresh, inviting composition.
Style : Saikat does his painting in stages, starting with large, vague color areas established on wet paper, then refines the image through a sequence of washes and glazes, making the works as durable as oils or acrylics. The pigments are held by arabic gum with additives like glycerine and solvents that give the medium durability.
Watercolors appear more vivid than acrylics or oils because the pigments are laid down in a more pure form with fewer fillers obscuring the pigment colors. Multiple layers of watercolor thus achieve a very luminous effect. Water being an active and complex partner in the watercolor painting process, it changes the outlines and appearance of the paint as it dries. Saikat has mastered the difficult art of anticipating and leveraging the behavior of water, rather than attempting to control it.
Saikat uses the ‘wash’, ‘glaze’ and ‘wet in wet’ methods of application to produce a huge variety of striking works, definitely worth collecting.
In my watercolour paintings, the beauty lies in the freshness of colours, their transparency and purity along with a slightly unfinished look resulting in a more natural effect. My watercolours try infusing life in common place objects and making them look spectacularly real.
