Silver German huge flower bowl / centrepiece with original gorgeous glass liner Measures: c (18.30 inches) Style of Historicism / Neo-Baroque (made circa 1888-1890) Silver 800 branded by German Crescent with crown (used as from the year 1888 as it was legally binding then) Manufactory: Hallmarked by SCHLEISSNER & SONS, Hanau (Germany). Founded by Johann Daniel Christian Schleissner (1793-1862). Johann's son, Daniel Philipp August Schleissner (1825-1891), was a great admirer of the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo periods. Daniel had studied many private and public collections of genuine old silver and acquired much knowledge of the design aesthetics of these periods. He possessed the business acumen to use this knowledge, combined with the application modern silver manufacturing techniques, to efficiently and accurately reproduce fine antique pieces. Under his aegis, the firm emerged as Hanau's pre-eminent producer of antique style silverware in the later 19th century. Four sculptured figurines, winged cherubs attached to oval platter, hold garlands consisting of wine grapes and flowers' blossoms with leaves / mentioned garlands are topped by ribbons/bows. A huge (original) glass liner is perfectly fitting the garlands' ring: The glass is excellently cut with diamonds' patterns visible on outer wall and further with lines arranged in a fan shape decorating glass bowls' edge.
