Johann Friedrich Hesse Art
Johann Friedrich Hesse was the son of a musician living in Magdeburg, Saxony. He began his studies at the Magdeburg Provincial Art School, proceeding later to study at the Royal Academy of Arts, Dresden, under Schubert and Retsch. Hesse finished his studies and became a very popular portraitist, but he was famous also for his beautiful landscapes. In 1818, he settled in Hamburg, where he lived until 1838 and then he moved to Berlin.
