"I was born in Colombia, South America and I arrived in New York City on November 23, 1963, the same day President Kennedy was assassinated. My dream was to be a working artist and live off the proceeds from my paintings. It was very difficult to be accepted, so I took a job designing stained glass windows, mosaics and sculptures and I painted in my personal time. Now, for many years, I am able to concentrate totally on my painting. I live on a farm in upstate New York and my studio is in a converted barn, along with my gallery. It is a great space to exhibit my paintings to prospective buyers. I have exhibited in this country and overseas, with shows in Paris, London, Venice, Belgium, Japan, and South America. My paintings always have a touch of humor." - Leandro Velasco

I like to apply paint with real freedom and spontaneity to produce paintings that have energy and depth, exploring my passion for surface quality, colour, texture and tactility.” “My series of ‘Interior Spaces’ paintings have been very popular and are constantly evolving. As a starting point I use a found image or one of my own photographs, adding or removing elements as I feel necessary to enhance the composition. I then start to play with my materials, constantly adding and subtracting. I will often include abstract stencilling to add a sense of drama, and introduce rivets to add further interest. I also enjoy including text, whether stencilled or found words in magazines.
