Antique Islamic Arab Sword Solid 22k Gold Mounts Damascus Steel Mughal Shamshir
Located in Ottawa, ON
Antique, 18th-19th century mounted in solid 22k gold museum-quality Islamic Middle Eastern - Arabian, Arab sword "Saif" in the form of the Indo-Persian saber shamshir in a characteristic Arab style, with 17th - 18th century Indian Mughal blade with late 18th century Arabian Peninsula gold mounting. The sword, wooden scabbard and hilt are enclosed in solid 22k gold. A hilt comprises a grip with camel bone grip scales, enclosed by solid gold straps and wrapped in a solid gold wire at the base, rising to a solid gold cup-pommel, jeweled with faceted ruby stone. Solid silver cross guard with bud-shaped terminals is embellished with solid gold repousse plaques adorned with arabesques design. The wooden scabbard is clad with solid gold mounts formed from several separate elements, made of 22 karats solid gold sheet, it is embossed and engraved with typical Arabic tribal motifs and mounted with two large bulging solid gold suspension mounts (rings missing). The Damascus steel blade of the sword is made in Mughal Indian Empire in late 17th - early 18th century, in characteristic of this period time Indian sword blades made in the style of the European blades by Genoese and Styrian sword smiths. Those blades were imported to India during the late 16th -early 17th century and known in Mughal India by the name Firangi. FEATURES OF THE BLADE: The blade is made of hand-forged welded mechanical Damascus steel with a watered pattern with a slightly visible welded Damascus pattern with horizontal lines known as the Muhammad’s ladder pattern (see the last two photos in the listing). Long, slightly curved, sturdy, blade is cut on both sides with a broad ,full-length fuller and a short, slender fuller along the back edge. The spine near the cross guard is stamped with pseudo-European makers marks comprising series of Latin alphabet letters: Ɪ o Ɪ o Ɪ o Ɪ o Ɪ o Ɪ o Ɪ o. The ricasso of the blade near the cross guard is bounded in reinforcing steel collar since as valuable old Mughal Damascus steel blade was removed from the old hilt and remounted into the newer gold mounted Arab hilt. This procedure of the remounted old expensive blades and reinforcing the ricasso by collar can be seen in the many Turkish Ottoman swords with old blades mounted with 18th-19th century hilts. These exceptional qualities, gold-mounted Arab swords "Saif " are classified as "Royal Sabers" that belonged to Arab kings, sultans, or sheiks, sometimes they were presented to very important persons (other monarchs). In Muslim culture, the offering of the sword is an act of definite friendship, loyalty, trust, and mutual protection between the giver and beneficiary. Most of these royal swords...

The Arabesque Table Contemporary Recipes from the Arab World
By Phaidon
Located in New York, NY
"The Arabesque Table is full to the brim with dishes which are rooted in tradition and at the same time creatively (and deliciously!) transcend it. It is wonderful!" - Yotam Ottolenghi "A dazzling set of recipes from Reem Kassis" – Nigel Slater "Reem Kassis's cookbooks tell of her Palestinian family, while giving a modern twist to such dishes as fatteh, lentil soup and pistaschio cake" - The Observer Food Monthly Acclaimed author Reem Kassis returns with a one-of-a-kind collection of original contemporary recipes tracing the rich history of Arab cuisine. The Arabesque Table takes inspiration from the traditional food of the Arab world, weaving Reem Kassis's historic research and cultural knowledge with her contemporary interpretations of an ancient, remarkably diverse cuisine. In her personal, engaging voice, Reem bridges past and present to open up the world of Arabic cooking today, showcasing a mosaic of 130 delicious, accessible home recipes. Organized by primary ingredient, the recipes and vivid photographs bring the dishes to life while her narrative offers not only a sense of taste, but a sense of time and place as well. More than just a compilation of modern Arabic recipes, The Arabesque Table celebrates the evolution of Arab cuisine and the stories of cross-cultural connection it recounts, paying tribute to the history and journey that have led to this point. With the past on full display in this heavily researched and exciting book, you will find dishes from the Golden Age of Islam: like Narjissiya (a fava bean and egg hash) and Makmoora (a layered chicken, onion and pine nut pot pie), as well as contemporary and globally inspired interpretations: like Tahini Cheesecake and Caramelized Butternut Squash Fatteh with Za'atar, revealing a cuisine that is vibrant, nourishing, and exciting, but above all, reminding us of how powerful food is in defining the relationship between people, place and identity. Specifications: Format: Hardback Size: 246 x 189 mm (9 3/4 x 7 1/2 in) Pages: 256 pp Illustrations: 129 illustrations Reem Kassis is the author of Phaidon's acclaimed cookbook The Palestinian Table, which won the Guild of Food Writers First Book award and a Gourmand World Cookbook award and was a James Beard Best International...

Elvis Girls! Girls! Girls! Original Vintage Japanese B2 Movie Poster, 1963
Located in Devon, GB
Following the tried and tested golden formula of light-hearted musical entertainment, exotic location and girls galore which saw Elvis' soundtrack albums far outstrip his regular album sales, 'Girls! Girls! Girls!' stands out as one of Elvis Presley's more popular films, even receiving a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture - Musical. Elvis' eleventh feature film and his second shot in Hawaii, 'Girls! Girls! Girls!' was a safe money-spinner for both his record label RCA and the film's distributor Paramount, who saw Elvis voted as 1962's 'Top Box Office Draw' for having three of the top grossing films of that year. The highlight of the film is Presley's performance of his enduring pop classic 'Return to Sender,' which subsequently peaked at no.2 on the US Billboard chart when released as the lead single from the soundtrack album. Seen in sublime profile, Elvis is every inch the handsome heartthrob as the penniless fishing boat pilot on this ultra rare B2 poster for the original Japanese release. Completing one of the best poster designs we have seen for this picture, a bevy of bikini-clad beauties feature at the foot of the photomontage, with Elvis as the carefree sailor sandwiched between his two love interests, played by Stella Stevens...
