Mary Erckenbrack lived a cosmopolitan existence in her early years, residing in Rio de Janeiro, France and England before studying in Paris and later under Alexander Archipenko. She operated a studio in San Francisco in the 1930s, and her creations were sold at Gumps, Marshall Fields and shops in New York.
