Fantastic vintage Chelsea Safari Chair designed by Maurice Burke for Arkana Furniture wearing its original cognac faux leather or vinyl with a teak frame, tubular black metal runners, and steel screw details. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. There are a couple small nicks in the vinyl and one small tear in the arm sling that have been reglued & repaired. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Stunning Safari lounge chair, “Chelsea” model, designed by Maurice Burke in the 1960s for Arkana. The heavy black faux leather is soft and in great condition, accented with over-sized stainless steel rivets on a solid African teak frame and steel stretchers. This chair is very comfortable – it has been in the same house since new, and has been very well looked after.
The underside is stamped with the makers mark “arkana, Falkirk, Scotland. Made in Great Britain patent applied for registered design 924.933 & 924.934”
As with all “Safari” chairs, this piece was designed to be disassembled, and will flat pack into a smaller box for shipping.
Arkana furniture was originally manufactured in Falkirk, Scotland. The pieces they are best known for are the tulip ranges which are 1960s and 70s versions of the designs of Eero Saarinen for Knoll.
