Maurice Charles Louis Van Essche Nude Drawings and Watercolors
Maurice Charles Louis Van Essche was born in 1906. His family moved to Brussels when he was five years old. In 1925, his studies were interrupted to earn a living by working in a stained glass studio that had some influence on the development of his painting style. In 1940, Essche was exiled by German occupation of Belgium and moved to South Africa. Through the 1940s, he helped found both the Continental School of Art in Cape Town and the International Art Club. In 1971, he departed for Europe and settled in France, where he died in 1977.
