He was educated at Cheltenham College, RMA Sandhurst and St. Martins School of Art, London. Later in life he spent time in Mexico and Australia. His paintings are in private collections worldwide. He paints mostly commissioned portraits, sports (particularly equestrian sports) and landscapes. Grimsdale has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition; London; Cowdray Park Polo Club; Equus, Newmarket; Tanjah Flandria, Tangier and Marrakech; Arden Gallery, Sydney, Somoza Sims Gallery, Houston, USA, and Napier Gallery, Jersey. He has paintings in permanent exhibition in the World Trade Club, Dubai. Holocaust Museum, Chicago, the Museum of Music, Taiwan and Apothecaries Hall, London.
