Gustave Gautier Attributed Armchair in Oak and Jacquard Fabric, France, 1950s
By Gustave Gautier, Nobilis
Located in The Hague, NL
This rare armchair was produced in France in the late 1950s. The design of this particular model is attributed to the designer Gustave Gautier. The chair is characterized by the sharp angles, geometric lines and scissor construction of the solid oak wood frame. They're attached to the backrest and to the arms, which are executed in a narrowing, pointed line again. The armrests attached on top of the arms end in a rounded, more organic shape. The chair has been newly upholstered in a sumptuous ivory/ light cream jacquard Nobilis Paris fabric. By combining very irregular woolly yarns and thrown threads, the fabric has a refined texture and appearance. The oak wood is in very good original condition with a natural, attractive patina. Other designers working in the same French Modern style include Guillerme & Chambron...
