Pierre Tal-Coat Prints and Multiples
French, 1905-1985
Pierre Tal-Coat (1905–1985) was a French artist considered to be one of the founders of Tachisme, a French style of abstract painting popular in the 1940s and 1950s often considered to be the European equivalent to abstract expressionism. It was part of a larger postwar movement known as Art Informel, which abandoned geometric abstraction in favor of a more intuitive form of expression, similar to action painting. He was friends with such notables as Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, Giacometti, Balthus and Artaud. In 1963 he collaborated alongside Joan Miro and Ubac in the creation of the Maeght foundation.to

Born in Canyon de Chelly, Arizona and raised in a hogan on the Navajo Reservation, R.C. Gorman became one of the Southwest's best known late 20th-century artists. His signature works were Navajo women in a variety of poses. Many persons have been fascinated by the fact that he, an Indian artist, became famous in the white man's world with some calling him the "Picasso of Indian artists". Of this kind of attention, he said: "I wish people would quit pushing my being Indian. The only time I was interviewed as If I were a normal person was by the Jewish Press in Tucson. It was the first time I felt international and almost white". (Samuels 222)

Salvador Dalí (Figueres, 1904 – Figueres, 1989) is considered one of the most versatile and prolific artists of the XX century and the founding father of Surrealism. In the course of his long career, he successfully experimented with sculpture, fashion, writing, and filmmaking. In his early use of organic morphology, his work bears the stamp of Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró. His work is also characterized by a fascination with classical art, manifested in the realistic style and religious symbolism of his latest works. Dalí was born near Barcelona to a middle class family. He soon demonstrated an interest in art, and, at the age of 18, he attended the Special Painting, Sculpture and Engraving School of San Fernando in Madrid. His eccentricity was notorious, and at first even more
famous than his works. When he traveled to Paris, he met Pablo Picasso in his studio and took inspiration from Cubism. In 1928, he collaborated with Buñuel on Un Chien Andalou...
