Raul Gutierrez Art
Raul Gutierrez was born in 1935 in Laredo, Texas, and he moved with his family to San Antonio when he was in his teen years. While attending San Antonio high school, Fox Tech, Raul earned an art scholarship and attended the Warren Hunter School of Commercial and Fine Arts. Later, Raul joined the U.S. Army and served his country in Korea. After this, he was placed as an illustrator at the Pentagon, which led to his 15 year career as a political cartoonist and illustrator at the San Antonio Light. Being a man of many talents, Raul is also a poet and songwriter in his native Spanish language. He utilizes his abilities and kind nature to participate in many local charities and collaborate with San Antonio's art shows. Gutierrez's distinctive style, most notable in his oil paintings, is easily recognisable. His pride in authenticity and originality is recognized worldwide. Named Texas Artist of the Year for 1983-84 by the Texas Legislature, works from Raul Gutierrez have been included in the collections of the late President Lyndon B. Johnson, former Texas Governor John Connally, former President of Mexico, Miguel Aleman and nationally known country and western singer and actor, George Strait.
