Robert Bonfils Prints and Multiples

French, 1886-1972
Born in Paris, Bonfils spent 1903-1909 at various Parisian art schools: the École Germain Pilon, the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (where he subsequently taught for thirty-two years), and the École des Beaux Arts. From 1909 he exhibited regularly at the Salon d'Automne, by 1912 he was exhibiting at Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and then subsequently at Tuileries and abroad. He was an organiser of the 1925 Paris International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts, and the 1937 Exposition. His relationship with Bianchini who produced many of his textile designs commenced in 1915. He was made Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1926, being promoted to Officier in 1938.

Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork "Wien" c.1930, is a color etching on paper by Austrian artist Luigi Kasimir, 1881-1962. It is hand signed in pencil by the artist's estate at the lower center. Custom framed in a wooden gold stressed frame, with off white/green matting and green and black fillets It is in Excellent condition. About the artist. Luigi Kasimir was born in 1881 at Pettau, today Ptuj, Slovenia, then a part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. He inherited his talent from his ancestors; his grandfather was a painter and a poet, and his father an officer in the Habsburg army, who later became a professional painter. Kasimir attended the Vienna Academy of Art where he studied under Wilhelm Unger, who introduced him to the technique of the coloured etching, and also to his future wife, the artist Tanna Hoernes.[1] He died in 1962 in Grinzing, a suburb of Vienna.Kasimir was among the first to develop the technique of the coloured etching. Before this, prints were usually hand-coloured with the colour being applied in a casual, haphazard manner. Kasimir would first create a sketch usually in pastel, he then transferred the design on as many as four to six plates, printing one after the other and applying the colour on the plate, all done by hand. Kasimir is mainly famous for his etchings, but he also produced some oil painting, as well as some pastels. One of his favourite genres was the landscape, or veduta. He demonstrated a predisposition street scenes, and tourist landmarks. He depicted places from all over Europe, mainly Italy, Austria, and Germany. He also travelled to the United States to do a series of etchings of famous sights ranging from urban landmarks such as New York City skyscrapers, to natural wonders like Yosemite Valley. Luigi Kasimir’s etchings...

Cherry Blossoms at Dusk , Japanese color woodblock, Musashino College of Art
Located in Santa Cruz, CA
Signed lower right, 'Morihiro Sato' (Japanese, born 1943), with artist chop mark, and dated 1985; titled, lower left, in English and Kanji 'Cherry Trees (Dusk)' with number and limitation, '3/55'. Paper dimensions: 24.25 x 35.5 inches A fresh and unfaded woodblock print showing a view of cherry tree boughs heavy with glowing blossoms before a vista of rolling hills with stylized Japanese pine beneath a luminous, golden sunset. Morihiro Sato graduated from Musashino College of Fine Art before studying under the printmaker Joichi Hoshi (1913-1979). Sato’s work focuses on the beauty of nature, particularly that of trees. Through the medium of woodblock with inclusion of metallic pigments, his delicately atmospheric prints evoke a sense of gentle sense of wonder. *With thanks to Ronin Gallery
