A lovely and refined set of four fine ceramic ashtrays in the shape of a shell; they were hand-molded, then fired in the kiln a first time, then on the white majolica the inner decoration was done with a delicate shaded blue color at this point the objects underwent a second firing, the outer part was then decorated and finally, the ashtrays were fired a third time to finally fix the colors thus creating four small works of art. The ashtrays were made between 1936 and 1938 by the firm Ceramiche Artistiche Rometti and bear the signature of the company itself on the bottom. Ceramiche Rometti...

Modern Italian Ceramic Tray from Rometti Umbertide
By Rometti Ceramics 1
Located in Roma, IT
Modern Ceramic Tray from Rometti, Umbertide Perugia Italy 1950s The "Rometti" manufacture of artistic ceramics was founded in Umbertide (Perugia) in October 1927 by Settimio Rometti and his nephew Aspromonte (known as Riego), son of his brother Paolo, in partnership with R. Cerrini and his wife O. Fronduti. The first name of the factory was 'Ars Umbra', a name under which the very first works produced between 1927 and 1928 were marked. The artistic and technical direction was entrusted to Aspromonte and the manufacture's production consisted mainly of furnishings and crockery decorated in Art Nouveau style. From 1928 the artistic direction of the factory was taken over by Aspromonte's cousin, Settimio Stamura's sister's son, Dante Baldelli, with the collaboration of Corrado Cagli from 1928 to 1930. Towards the end of the 1920s, the sculptor Mario Di Giacomo was asked to collaborate with the factory. In the same period, Rometti, perhaps by chance, developed a black enamel, known as 'nero fratta', which was particularly brilliant and had a metallic effect. It was used above all for the monochromes by Cagli, Di Giacomo and Baldelli. In those years, the factory, whose trademark was either "Ceramiche Rometti...
