Stella Texas Elmendorf Tylor Art

American, 1885-1980

Born Stella Elmendorf in San Antonio, Texas on December 17, 1885, she studied with Robert Henri at the Art Students League in New York City in 1910–11. She took part in the Armory Show of 1910. Thereafter, she returned to her hometown of San Antonio, Texas, where she continued to be active until about 1975. She won numerous awards over her long career, including, among others, first prize at All Illinois Society of Fine Arts, Chicago and purchase prize at the Witte Museum, San Antonio, and was exhibited in New York City, San Francisco, Wilmington, Austin and San Antonio, Texas. She passed away in New Braunfels, Texas, on December 27, 1980.

It was a long visit: the child was two years old by the time the family returned to Ghent.[1] After a short period of practice with his father, van Biesbroeck was enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. His first painting, "The Shepherd" (French: Le pâtre), was sold at the Triennale in Ghent. In 1888, when he was only 15 years old, he made his debut at the "Salon des Champs-Elysées" in Paris with his monumental work "The Launch of the Argo" (French: Le lancement...
