Suzanne Leighton grew up surrounded by art, but went the way of maths and science to become a civil engineer and project manager. When her daughters were born, she switched careers into complementary healing.
As a complementary health practitioner, Suzanne started painting to explore herself and the power of healing through art and so discovered it was a powerful medicine. She finds meditation in drawing, play in colour and the studio - a sanctuary which has allowed her agency to change her relationship to reality.
Suzanne utilizes traditional oil painting techniques of layering, mixing and juxtaposition of colour. She enjoys zooming in or out on a landscape so as to take it to abstraction - shapes and colour that are only a suggestion of the image being viewed. In her painting, shapes have been made geometric and colours enhanced to create evocative, abstract landscapes and seascapes.to

A few words of the artist about his art:
When i painting landscapes, I usually choose simple geometric arrangements, contrasts of verticals and levels. I juxtapose the smooth surface of the sky with the rough texture of earth or grass.
I paint symmetrical reflections in water and rhythmic repetitions of trees. Even an ordinary, seemingly uninteresting fragment of the suburban landscape hides a beauty that I want to see and then transfer to the canvas.
I am inspired by nature because it contains a hidden secret of existence. For me, painting it is a reflection on life and passing away. It is an attempt to capture the imperceptible essence, to paint what cannot be seen.
I think that my paintings can be a respite, an antidote for a man tired of technology, constant rush, hustle and bustle of the city.
