Italian, b. 1935
Valerio Adami is an artist internationally recognized for his seductively rich and psychologically complex paintings. He started from an expressionist painting influenced by the work of Francis Bacon, and then he approached the abstract visual idioms of Pop Art with its cartoonish imagery, flatness and eye-popping colors. His artistic life was deeply marked by the meeting with the painters Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta and Wilfredo Lam, who inspired and encouraged him to develop his talents. Adami’s works are layered with meanings, and his works are exhibited in the most important museums all over the world, London, New York, Venice, Chicago, Rome, Washington, Paris and Tokyo.

This artwork titled "Homer" 1979 is an original colors serigraph on Stonehenge Wove paper by noted Italian artist Valerio Adami, b.1935. It is hand signed and numbered 6/75 in pencil by the artist. Published by Editions Press, San Francisco. The image size is 37.5 x 21.75 inches, framed size is 45.75 x 29.15 inches. Custom framed in a metal gold frame, with beige fabric matting. The artwork is in excellent condition, the frame is in very good condition, it has some minor scratches.
About the artist:
Valerio Adami was born in Bologna. In 1935, at the age of ten, he began to study painting under the instruction of Felice Carena. He was accepted into the Brera Academy (Accademia di Brera) in 1951, and there studied as a draughtsman until 1954 in the studio of Achille Funi. In 1955 he went to Paris, where he met and was influenced by Roberto Matta and Wifredo Lam. His first solo exhibition came in 1959 in Milan.
In his early career, Adami's works were expressionistic, but by the time of his second exhibition in 1964 at Kassel, he had developed a style of painting reminiscent of French cloisonnism, featuring regions of flat color bordered by black lines. Unlike Gauguin, however, Adami's subjects were highly stylized and often presented in fragments, as seen in Telescoping Rooms (1965).
In the 1970s, Adami began to address politics in his art, and incorporated subject matter such as modern European history, literature, philosophy, and mythology. In 1971, he and his brother Gioncarlo created the film Vacances dans le désert. In 1974 he illustrated a Helmut Heissenbuttel poem, Occasional Poem No. 27. The Bolshevik Era (1917-1921) was a life and death struggle for the Bolsheviks and their ideology. The propaganda poster was everywhere, as the Bolsheviks struggled to win the Civil War against the Whites and fought the Poles over control of the Ukraine and parts of modern day Belarus. The early Soviet poster - an incredible 3600 designs - was remarkable for its revolutionary fervor and biting wit. Powerful visual symbols were invented, like the red star and hammer and sickle.

1." May 1st All Russian Subbotnik " is a Russian poster promoting the first all Russian Subbotnik held on May 1st, 1920 in which Vladimir Lenin was in attendance. Dmitry Moor was a Russian graphic artist, poster designer and cartoonist, also known as D. Moor ("Д. Моор"). During the 1900s and 1910s he was a comic pioneer, making satirical comics ridiculing the Czarist regime and censorship. Under the Soviet regime he became one of the most celebrated propaganda artists. Both during the First and the Second World War he ridiculed the German army. In his work Moor often made use of sequential illustrated narratives or comics. He was the house cartoonist of magazines like Budilnik and later Bezbozhnik.
Alexander Petrovich Apsit was born in Riga on 25th March, 1880. He moved to Saint Petersburg in 1894 and attended art school and became a student of Lew Dmitriew-Kawkaski. Aspit worked for various Russian magazines and on the outbreak of the First World War was employed by the government to design war posters. After the Bolshevik Revolution Apsit was commissioned by the State Publishing House to design revolutionary posters.
