William Meadows Paintings
William Meadows was an actor and tenor singer. Meadows was tutored by his father and initially found work with him as a scene painter in the London theatres. He lived in St Pancras and Hampstead and also lived in Poole. He spent most of his life painting the views of Essex, London and Dorset but also traveled around painting views of the South Coast and Scotland. Meadows spent time in Venice producing several highly skilled works of the canals and famous landmarks such as this fine example. Although he does not appear to have exhibited at the London galleries, he did exhibit at the Royal Hibernian Academy. Examples of Meadows paintings can be found in several public collections, including the Doncaster Mansion House, Gainsborough Old Hall, Milntown House and Rotherham Museum.
