Yasuomi Hashimura Photography
Japanese, b. 1945
Yasuomi Hashimura (b. 1945, Ibaraki City, Osaka, Japan) lives and works in New York City. He has had solo exhibitions in Tokyo at the National Museum of Western Art; the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography; Seibu Yurakucho Art Forum, Ginza; and Mikimoto Gallery. He has also exhibited his work in group exhibitions and delivered lectures in Taiwan, Brazil, and the U.S.
In 1968, Hashimura emigrated to the United States, living in Hawaii, Los Angeles, and New York. He rose to prominence as a photographer in New York City while creating fine art photography, and has published several books since 1989. His fine art contextualizes ideas of memory and displacement and the exploration of time. His photographs become not only about the tangible but also what remains unseen.to
