A collective of artists working in the United Kingdom, who came to be known as the YBAs, or Young British Artists, defined the artistic culture of the 1990s. Affiliated loosely by their age and nationality, they were a varied collective of practitioners. A number of the YBAs attended the Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths in London, and were favoured by the ‘super collector’ of the time, Charles Saatchi. Questions About Yoko Ono 1933 Prints and Multiples
  • 1stDibs ExpertNovember 13, 2024
What Yoko Ono's art is called varies, as she has worked in several types of media. During the 1960s, Ono largely produced performance art. During that period, she was part of the Fluxus art movement, whose proponents sought to challenge the traditional definition of art and expand it to include concerts, performances, scores and happenings. In addition, she has created conceptual art, in which artists are less focused on a medium being something traditionally “artistic” and instead engage in using any object, movement, form, action or place to express an idea. Some of Ono's most famous works include Painting to Be Stepped On, Grapefruit, Ceiling Painting/Yes Painting, My Mommy Is Beautiful, Painting to Hammer a Nail and Play it by Trust.
