Quinze Dessins de Durer a Dufy Appartenant aux Collections des Musees Nationaux, issued in 1968, represents a landmark achievement in Parisian printmaking devoted to the faithful translation of historic master drawings into modern pochoir and lithographic form. Conceived and published by Daniel Jacomet in collaboration with Editions Artistiques et Documentaires, the album inaugurated a series dedicated to rendering canonical drawings with extraordinary precision, respecting line weight, tonal subtlety, and the original spirit of each work. Jacomets atelier was internationally renowned for its technical rigor and scholarly approach, bridging museum collections and contemporary print culture through meticulous craftsmanship. Drawing together works spanning centuries, from Albrecht Durer to Raoul Dufy, the album reflects a curatorial ambition rooted in pedagogy, preservation, and aesthetic continuity. Produced in strictly limited examples, including a small number outside the trade, the album exemplifies the highest standards of mid twentieth century Parisian printmaking and remains valued for its role in transmitting the legacy of master draughtsmanship to collectors, institutions, and scholars. About the Artist: Guido Reni (1575–1642) was an Italian painter whose refined classicism, luminous palette, and idealized vision of beauty positioned him as one of the most influential masters of the early Baroque and among the most sought after artists of seventeenth century Europe, establishing a legacy of balance, harmony, and expressive restraint that continued to resonate across centuries of Western art. Born in Bologna, Reni trained at the Accademia degli Incamminati under Ludovico Carracci and was profoundly shaped by the reforming ideals of Annibale Carracci, whose return to nature, disciplined draftsmanship, and classical proportion formed the foundation of Reni s mature style. Drawing deeply from Raphaels serenity, Correggios softness, and the ideals of classical antiquity, Reni developed a distinctive visual language marked by silvery light, graceful movement, and an elevated spiritual tone, selectively absorbing the dramatic realism of Caravaggio while transforming it into something more lyrical, refined, and contemplative. His mythological scenes, devotional images, and monumental altarpieces were celebrated throughout Italy, France, and Spain for their emotional clarity, restrained drama, and idealized human form, influencing contemporaries such as Domenichino, Francesco Albani, and Simone Cantarini, and later shaping the academic traditions embraced by artists from Nicolas Poussin to Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres. The intellectual rigor, compositional balance, and psychological poise evident in Reni s work would later be admired by modern figures including Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, Wassily Kandinsky, Marcel Duchamp, and Man Ray, who recognized in his art a timeless model for uniting structure, emotion, and purity of form. Reni s pursuit of ideal beauty and expressive calm established him as a touchstone for artists seeking order and proportion in opposition to excess, ensuring his lasting relevance within both historical scholarship and the contemporary market. His enduring importance is underscored by his highest auction record, achieved in July 2012 when a major painting sold for approximately 29 million USD at Sothebys London, confirming his status as one of the most valuable and revered Old Master painters in the global art market.
