Iris Sanmartín Dalmau (Barcelona, 1996) is a painter whose practice weaves autobiographical narratives with mytho-poetic dimensions, exploring the subtle links between everyday experience, memory and intimacy.
She studied illustration and self-publishing at Escola Francesca Bonnemaison and graduated in Arts and Design in Applied Arts from Escola Massana. She is currently completing a degree in Philosophy at the University of Barcelona, a discipline that informs the reflective and introspective nature of her work.
Centered on painting, her process is grounded in gesture, erasure and reconfiguration. Sanmartín Dalmau works primarily with oil paint, employing diluted layers, glazes, cloths and sandpaper as tools to remove, alter and reconstruct scenes. Through this method, the image emerges gradually, shaped as much by subtraction as by accumulation.
Her works draw from personal writings and notes, archival photographs, literary references, and motifs related to the body, intimacy and memory. These elements converge to form a painterly inquiry into how we inhabit and relate to our immediate environments, revealing the emotional and symbolic layers embedded within familiar spaces.
