This exceptional Antique Caucasian Shirvan Runner Rug is a finely woven and historically rich textile from the East Caucasus, dating to the mid-19th century, circa 1860. Measuring 115 x 351 cm (approx. 3'9" x 11'6"), its impressive length and intricate, all-over design make it a commanding art piece for a long corridor, gallery, or sophisticated living area.
The central field features a deep indigo/navy blue ground, which is almost entirely covered by a vertical, repeating pattern of connected hexagonal (six-sided) medallions. These medallions are meticulously detailed with small internal geometric symbols and stylized star motifs, rendered in subtle tones of madder red, ivory, taupe, and pale blue. The dense, overall pattern suggests a high level of craftsmanship, typical of the finer weaving centers in the Shirvan region.
The field is framed by a serene, multi-band border system.
